Had they not been moved to “white schools” as children they would still know their own history and heritage”. My cultural humility was sharpened again.

After a long silence, one of the elders said “except, when we were across the street at (HBCU) Prairie View University, we suggested we close our meeting with the “Black National Anthem”, and not one of those college kids had any idea what we were talking about.

Several years ago, while serving at a historically black church, I, in all my whiteness, suggested to some of the church elders over coffee that was integration of our schools was a “good thing”.
