After a long silence, one of the elders said “except, when we were across the street at (HBCU) Prairie View University, we suggested we close our meeting with the “Black National Anthem”, and not one of those college kids had any idea what we were talking about.

Several years ago, while serving at a historically black church, I, in all my whiteness, suggested to some of the church elders over coffee that was integration of our schools was a “good thing”.

Usha looks kind and thoughtful and is more than likely an immigrant or the child of immigrants. Perhaps she had no idea where her husband would end up or whom he would end up being socially and politically. Perhaps she is just waiting out the next 4 years and hoping for the best.

I joined a few months ago. I’m still figuring it out. Seems big on art and literature, small on politics, a refreshing change. Nice to breeze through once in a while.

Life goes on; only better, sober. Mike T 34 years 5 months and some days. 2 marriages, 2 graduate degrees, 3 adopted children, countless moves and career changes, depression, mental illness in FOO, still growing. Go Alicia!
