This promises to be an amazing book! @lilydunn.bsky.social knows how to write #memoir… and how to teach it! #WritingCommunity

@jencalleja.bsky.social's memoir, 'Fair: The Life-Art of Translation', comes out in May from @prototypepubs.bsky.social. If you enjoy reading books from all over the world, you'll be fascinated by the art (life!) of translation behind them. To pre-order, see prototypepublishing.co.uk/product/fair/

So pleased to see Francesca Kay's beautiful novel, THE BOOK OF DAYS (Swift Press), on the Walter Scott Prize 2025 longlist announced last week! #histfic

I love this self-portrait of Sofonisba, who here ‘tells’ you so much about herself, with that gaze and so many details: the precious shirt collar, the fur, and the gold, pearls and rubies threaded through her hair. Seen at the Pinacoteca di Brera last week. #earlymodern #earlymodernwomen

A post by 'What Cathy Read Next' on the books longlisted today for the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction 2025. #histfic whatcathyreadnext.co.uk/2025/02/18/t...

A realistic “women’s world”, in this “Birth of the Virgin” (G. Ferrari, 1541-43; Pinacoteca di Brera). A baby’s first bath water was thrown in the hearth for a girl and outside the front door for a boy - something that made it into my latest historical novel, as it still resonates... #earlymodern

The magnificent Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense today, attached to the amazing Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan. Palazzo Brera, which houses them, was built in c. 1615 and was a Jesuit college until 1773.

“Cuckoo in the Nest” by @franhill123.bsky.social is a moving novel, laced with a humour that renders the narration poignant. Can’t wait to read “Home Bird”. #newbooks #books

. @leiataillefur.bsky.social @valeriavescina.bsky.social Utterly delighting in this series of online seminars. My brain feels SO happy, SO satisfied every Monday. I wish my day job allowed me more free time.

As Elif Shafak says, “The silencing of women’s voices is not a thing of the past.” On 26 March she’ll join Sandi Toksvig, EmmaGH and Zahra Joya to discuss both the historical and present-day silencing of women. www.theguardian.com/guardian-liv...

The Curae Prize is open for entries. Read this article by founder @BookwormVaught.bsky.social on its genesis and purposes. “Creative work - here, writing - is not a pleasant extra, but essential to our wellbeing: core, not peripheral.” www.bookbrunch.co.uk/page/free-ar...

The three “weird sisters” who speak to Macbeth in a woodcut from Shakespeare’s source, Raphael Holinshed’s “Chronicles” (1577), looking nothing at all like hags #shakespeare #macbeth #EarlyModern

Just downloaded a copy. This looks like a fabulous addition to #nuntastic scholarship! Can't wait to dig in more.

ICYMI: Book at Lunchtime welcomed Henrike Lähnemann to discuss her #nuntastic new book, The Life of Nuns: Love, Politics, and Religion in Medieval German Convents

The British Library’s 'Medieval Women' exhibition offers rare insights into medieval women's lives and their quest for agency. It resonated, as my second novel (now #querying) was inspired by archival documents and the sentiment of giving a voice to the unheard. valeriavescina.com/2025/01/08/m...

Many congratulations, @suereedwrites.bsky.social! 👏🎉

Over at The Other Place, Palladio Museum announced the program and registration for its annual seminar on the history of architecture, this year on "Women, Spaces, Freedom. #Architecture and the female universe in the #Renaissance". #earlymodern www.palladiomuseum.org/en/courses/w...

Sometimes working with manuscripts gets us really, really close to the people from the past allowing us to hear their voices. This is a story of a letter from a schoolgirl to her teacher, written probably sometime at the end of the 9th or the beginning of the 10th century. A thread 🧵 #medievalsky /1

Bernese Oberland, Switzerland, 11 pm tonight: the snow reflects the (nearly full) moon’s light, despite the thick cloud cover. 🌕✨❄️

The @britishlibrary.bsky.social exhibition has generated a phenomenal response, and for good reason. It conjures a mosaic of medieval women's lives that is not only fascinating, but also offers insights into our own times. valeriavescina.com/2025/01/08/m... #medieval #earlymodern #skystorians
