You sound intelligent.

Well as I said, for 20 years Gaza has been entirely under Hamas rule. They could have used billions in aid on infrastructure and the economy, but their interest is only weapons and tunnels. Israelis have never had power over education there.

Personally I think Hamas leaders/Iranian masters were surprised by their own fighters utter depravity on Oct 7. They wanted to provoke an Israeli response but the sheer horror of what they did has led to a determination to finally (this time) remove them completely. Not what they wanted.

I agree Israel is no longer fighting defensively but again, it would have stopped months ago if the hostages were released. Ask why Hamas still hold some of them. And why they don't ever agree to a permanent ceasefire. Leaving them in power is no longer a sensible option.

Yes, the fact Israel exists at all and the narrative taught to Palestinian youths about the need to kill them all has led to them to want to fight. And yes, Israel is stronger and some actions taken by them will lead to more resentment and desire for violence.

They mostly hate each other but unite to hate Israel. So many times they've rejected peace offerings, offers of a Palestinian state etc. The truest saying is 'If the Arabs put down their arms, there would be peace. If the Jews put down their arms, there would be no more Jews'.

Of course Gaza has been hit hard, and I've given my views on why. Civilians are not targeted deliberately even if there are isolated examples of rogue soldiers. That's the difference between Israel and Hamas.

They founded the state on land which previously was part of the British empire. Nobody invaded an independent country. And they didn't take land, they bought it and developed it or used it after war. There was already a huge Jewish population from the 19th century at least.

And let's not forget that in 1948 when the UN created Israel, the Arabs (not the Palestinians - that name to mean Muslim residents of the area was only created in the 1960s by the PLO) refused their own state and chose to fight a war.

Yes a lot of European Jews moved when fleeing from death in Europe in the 40s. It is literally the only place on earth where Jews won't get persecuted. But it was a Jewish land before being colonised by different empires. Al Aqsa mosque is built on top of a destroyed Jewish temple.

There are 2 million Arab-Israelis. There are Muslim policemen, teachers, business leaders, judges and even soldiers in the IDF. There is no place in Israel that is 'Jews only' and there is no segregation anywhere. All road and municipal signs - by law - are written in both Hebrew and Arabic.

When people trot out the 'colonial' stuff in relation to Israel, it makes me wonder their opinion on every country in North and South America. As well as Australia/NZ.
comment in response to post
I'm not sure what 3CN's are, but Friday eve is the Jewish sabbath and Friday is also the Muslim sabbath so no surprise a lot of things were shut. But def not everything as a large proportion are secular. The whole 'colonial' argument is based on 'we were there first and Jews invaded'. Which is crap.
comment in response to post
That last line is utter nonsense. Have a quick Google about which group of people lived in the area first. Clue : Judaism is 3000 years older than Islam. Secondly, 20% of Israeli citizens are Muslim.

You ignorant clown.

Netanyahu is corrupt. But most Israelis support the aim to stop Hamas ever having any power to repeat their actions. Every single death in this war is on Hamas. We are now seeing some brave Gazans protesting against them. I hope more join in.

Hamas has been in charge of Gaza for 20 years. Israel has had no control over education. They've spent billions on terror tunnels and nothing on infrastructure for Gazans. The education is 'kill all Jews, they are our evil enemies'. Google what they teach their kids. That's why peace is impossible

The exchange rate set by Hamas and the PLO before that has always been around one thousand Arab lives in exchange for one Jew. Look at how many prisoners they want in order to release one hostage. They’ve said themselves, the more dead Palestinians the better it looks for them.
comment in response to post
You’re right. But they have maximum intent and they showed it. At any point they could have surrendered and released the hostages, ended all fighting. They refuse despite knowing they can’t win militarily. They continue because portraying themselves as victims is great propaganda.
comment in response to post
Watch one minute of footage filmed by Hamas on Oct 7 and you won’t sleep for weeks. They swear to do it ‘again and again’. The only way is to remove them forever. Again, they could surrender. They don’t because the death of their own people has proved great propaganda. They want war forever.

Do you really think house to house fighting between Israeli soldiers and Hamas gunmen hiding in child’s bedrooms schools and mosques would have produced less casualties? They built miles of underground tunnels (using our aid money) to ferry weapons and fighters about.
comment in response to post
…yet many in the west seem to infer that it is because it suits their narrative that Israel = evil. It is Hamas that want total war. If they had the means they’d kill 9 million Israelis tomorrow. They refuse to surrender and still hold hostages while claiming ‘genocide’. It’s demonstratively false.
comment in response to post
But it hasn’t. Yes innocents have died but when the armed terrorists are deliberately hiding among them, caring nothing about their own people, it’s inevitable. It’s the lowest civilian death rate of any urban war in history. It is not Israeli policy to kill all Palestinians….
comment in response to post
You’re using Hamas figures. Do you know they include their own fighters in that number, and that independent estimates are 1:1 civilian:Hamas casualties? When they hide amongst the people? The best figures ever achieved in urban war. And they won’t surrender to end the suffering.
comment in response to post
It feels like the awful events of Oct 7 are fairly crucial to this whole thing. The seething hatred of Israel showed itself within hours as people in the west immediately condemned any attempts to stop that happening again.
comment in response to post
Great! Now how about statements from Hamas, always reported as truth by Channel 4 and others. And accepted by the useful idiots here and elsewhere in the west.

Amazing that all those programmes were under 15 years old at the time. The equivalent of a nostalgia channel now that only showed TV from the 2010's

It wasn’t a kids show, it was on Saturday nights. You could be right but as I say I can’t believe they’d include 2/3 presenters of their new show! All four game for a laugh hosts are there too

Could be, but it would be odd to have just two of the presenters depicted and not the third one
