Thank you, Anna!! I've frankly stopped expecting anything else, but it's frustrating that they are so good at slowing you down and distracting you from the important issues. it's almost impressive

It’s funny - I make an effort to use full sentences and to avoid humour and irony in academic settings, as I know that might be a barrier for outsiders. And I don’t lie. Apparently, Norwegian academics interpret this strategy as aggression.

Yes!! I hope to do that! I've learned so much more from people like MAKC than from my professors. I've been able to get funding to invite some real scholars for a lecture series next year, so that's really cool at least.

That makes sense. It's also fascinating that the lowest-paying jobs are held by immigrants - who face immense pushback if they criticise any aspect of Norwegian society...

Thank you. It's very sad, but I have to agree. I sometimes wonder if my academic colleagues read more than 10 minutes a day. And many of the scholars I admire the most have faced brutal repression. Gaza has just raised the stakes.

Funding is thankfully stable for another year - afterwards I think I'll try life as a train conductor, if they'll hire me. It's too bad. I feel like I could have been an excellent teacher.

excellent points. From a Nordic perspective, another difference is that factories have largely been outsourced, which makes it difficult to see an affinity between Norwegian workers and the global working class. What are your thoughts on that dilemma?

they urged me to to be strategic and diplomatic - to be a spineless coward - if I want to have an academic career

A good idea. You must not abide their treacherous ways

Hoping to read Laundering Black Rage soon, heard a lot of good things about it.

oh man, I didn't know about this. What a loser.

Genocide studies has proven Crenshaw wrong on many occasions. The first victims in genocides are, as a rule, out-group males. In the US, 96% of Black people killed by police are men, and Black men are by far the most over-represented demographic in prison.

Debt certainly matters for third world countries. They pay a lot more in debt payments than they receive in aid

Many art institutions are fully endorsing AI, at least here in Norway. For instance, there have been no critical voices at any of the Ph.D. programs in artistic research…

Yeah, I guess that’s how I feel at the moment.

I think it is. And there is still so much more academic work being done on antisemitism compared to Islamophobia.

This feels a bit strange to read while Palestinians are being massacred during Eid

Me to my degree-granting dept.'s Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) in 2023: "What's your plan for protecting grad students from being doxxed and targeted by right-wing assaults due to the nature of their work and/or opinions?" My dept's DGS: *has nothing to say, gives deer-in-the-headlights-eyes*

I see that. Thanks for the explanation, my apologies for misunderstanding your original post.

I believe that historically, anti-colonial moments have been forces for good - against the genocidal, deeply immoral West.
comment in response to post
Well - how are they not a force of good if they are one of the few principled supporters of Palestine during this genocide?

Hello brother, I will try to donate as soon as possible!

Why don’t you like the Houthis? As you say, they are undoubtedly a force for good against US imperialism

Hello Mohammed, thank you for writing me. I just made a donation and I will share the post. I really hope you will be able to buy a good tent!!

Thanks a lot for this important clarification, Prof. Curry. Very much appreciated.

My work has looked at three primary issues: 1st: categorical conflation/redundacy. I show that intersectionality's intuitive observations are incorrect & often assert one category such as race has a causal relationship to an outcome actually caused by another category such as maleness.

wish I could move my PhD project to Roskilde - it looks like an excellent program!

Ever heard of NATO expansion? Guarantees given to the Soviet Union after WW2?
