Consider the genre as well. Readers are already self-selecting to a degree, so you can look to similar work and get a feel for people's expectations if you're concerned about market appeal.

For me that type of story hinges largely on how much you need to hint at things the character doesn't know or doesn't understand yet. Revelations occurring to the reader long before the character cause more frustration in first person that third can get away with with its godlike perspective.

It can depend on the story. A character's subjectivity and limited perspective serves some types very well, while other types need to drop hints and convey information that the character doesn't know, where it's all too easy to break immersion. Some people are simply better at writing one way, too
