Getting stuck into this and never has a cover pull quote felt more apt; this is very much The Kind Of Thing Alan Moore Would Like (complimentary)

It makes me incredibly happy when someone I recommend the books of B. Catling to loves them as much as I do.

“If you don’t have a division, a separation, you can’t question. One half of the brain doesn’t ask questions of the other half, they just agree.” –Brian Catling Katerina Milesi writes about the Cycloptics show here: www.articulate.nu/monocular-ge...

Reading and recovery today; couldn’t have chosen better, ‘Hollow’ is Brian Catling at his very best (saying a lot). Dancing the lend-lines between horror and hilarity, every page another weaving of archaism and edge, the whole book steeped in Catling’s deep knowledge of the visual arts. Wonderful.

If you, like me and Sean, think Brian Catling is one of the greatest artists of the past 50 years, you will be very happy to see this.

"Bringing Brian Catling to New York is like importing a high-grade virus. The city will never recover." (Iain Sinclair; 2014)

In 2007, Brian Catling contributed to The William Blake Birthday Book: "'The Flea' is part of my recent retellings of Blake’s horrible vision (it is his dark imagination that spurs me on) those terrible visions that crawl and tango through blood coloured interiors...

Something to begin, Brian Catling at Alma Enterprises, 2007 I think, the fist time that he worked with us, a durational performance, an arm filled with cheap gold watches, standard lamps, rolled up rugs, people rolled up in rugs, cheap aftershave, memories of his London youth. #almaenterprises

"14. If ever now on this bearing we veer, grace will be shrouded in our dusk. Alas poor carpenter, talented in obsequious olive and sandalwood cannot give or nail a parched vinegar light to signal the sharpness of our turn." B. Catling Boschlog: Being a Cartulary from The Ship of Fools

Happy birthday to the Warlock of Northampton; here a snap of the cyclopean genius in a painting by the late Brian Catling, a more detailed version of which we live in hope of seeing one day, the subject of the piece itself so far out of the realms of possibility as to require a serious act of magic.

Head, from Brian Catling's CUDDY (2019) Matts Gallery "The open cup head that balances out from the wall is topped up with water. Sinuses and cut arteries are in its face and neck. When the audience stand too close a valve will open inside it..." Watch your shoes.

Ruskin staff & alumni pay tribute to Brian Catling RA in Cycloptics opening in Athens today. Brian Catling was a Professor of Fine Art at Ruskin, and an artist, writer and magician of sorts - conjuring worlds, playing with the seen and unseen, poking fun, embracing the spectral.
