We have a campaign running for the designation of a Castlegate Conservation Area in Sheffield. See what the local @sheffieldstar.bsky.social had to say at the New Year. We look forward to a stronger expression of support from @sheffcitycouncil.bsky.social with consultation proposals bit.ly/3WohWrj

Hoping 2025 willl be a good news year for South Yorkshire heritage- News that HLF have awarded over £4M to Harmony Works in Sheffield to refurbish and develop Grade 2* Canada House on Commercial Street into a Regional music education hub- Harmony Works vision has finally paid off bit.ly/4gRrQdd

Wishing all of you that are interested in our South Yorkshire Victorian & Edwardian Heritage a Happy New Year 🍾🥂 We have a busy year ahead campaigning for Castlegate Conservation Area and trying to save threatened buildings throughout SYorks If you can help see our website bit.ly/4ahxXVL to join

@vicsoc-syorks.bsky.social have proposed a solution to this delay but, so far, @sheffcitycouncil.bsky.social want to stick to an 'If ...then' commitment and open ended decision making in 'Summer 2025' - News story here bit.ly/3BA3sxf 🏦 at risk!

'conservation is commercially very valuable. It gives an area its character, it creates places where people want to live and work. It’s not just about preserving an old building, it’s a record. A record of the continuity of this town that we live in...' Griff Rhys Jones, @thetimes.com bit.ly/3BCWTKj

💂 Looking forward to the day these soldiers of the Crimean war have a proper memorial in the city centre, with the reinstatement of the Crimean Memorial, long promised by @sheffcitycouncil.bsky.social but yet to find a suitable home 💂

Our last story in this series about the mixed results for heritage in Sheffield is a good news story. Years of neglect and pressure from campaigners has secured the Salvation Army Citadel for the city. bit.ly/4fl2UJs Council now needs to find the political will and the partners to make this work

The 3rd and final heritage building lost during 2024 was derelict and neglected for 6 years before it was deemed dangerous to the public and demolished with no attempt to save any of the significant historic fabric. See the story here. bit.ly/41xkFBN Tomorrow good news for the weekend?

The 2nd of our significant heritage buildings lost in 2024 is the Old Coroner's Court, Nursery Street, Sheffield. A irreplacable example of a combined Coroner's Court and Mortuary from before the first world war, now lost to another modern box with little merit. See the story here. bit.ly/3ZQN44I

🎄As 2024 draws to a close it has been a mixed year for our Victorian & Edwardian heritage. 3 significant heritage buildings lost and one brought into public ownership by Sheffield City Council. Over the rest of the week I'll highlight those stories. 1st The Market Tavern bit.ly/3Dawns8 demolished

A looming office block overshadowing Liverpool St Station would have a profound & harmful impact on the surrounding Bishopsgate Conservation Area. The harm to the historic environment from Network Rail's & Acme's proposed design would be substantial. A small tour: Bishopsgate Institute by wirewiper
