Ouch from the Pearl of the Indian Ocean!

"The tough lesson for English Sparkling Wine producers is that even good copies rarely overcome first mover advantage. I mean, why would you buy a SEAT if you’ve got a VW in the drive already?" by @atkinsonmw.bsky.social on @timatkinmw.bsky.social

A sparkling taste off at Buckingham Place in deep south Sri Lanka between Nyetimber NV & Wine Soc’s Alfred Gratien NV. Given Nyetimber NV’s positive results at the IWFS Capital branch bubbly blind tasting earlier this Feb - I’m wondering which wine will smash it? 😅 www.iwfs.capital/event-detail...

And now… the moment you’ve all been waiting for… it’s Ridiculous live at the live at The Camden Club on Bank Holiday Sunday 25th of May 2025. Doors 7pm. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ridiculous...

If you’re ever in Kandy, Sri Lanka, look up the very fine indeed Kandy House. Each room comes with its own butler. Alas no sommelier to sort out the wine list which is Sauvignon Blanc bonkers but here’s two other wines they offer up. One of which can only be bought in Iceland. Hmm.. I wonder why?!

A quick review of Sri Lankan beers.. so far! There’s Lion lager and then there’s erm.. Lion lager. Perfectly acceptable - fresh, fruity, even aromatic, lightly malty, semi-medicinal, liquid refreshment to counter the tropical torpor. Thumbs up!

Lucky me enjoying chilling and the wine cellar of the absolutely wonderful eco hotel Jetwing Vil Uyana in stunning Sri Lanka. The Font Sante entry level white Rhone (blend of Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier) is great value for money from an interesting wine list. ♥️🇱🇰

I love Chateau Musar. No such thing as a great vintage (kinda) just a great bottle. Please post any Levantine wines that have made you happier. Peace one day. ♥️🇱🇧🇸🇾🇮🇱

Tonight wasn’t too shabby wine-wise. What a lovely drop.

This week’s wine has been fizzy and fun. Up the Canucks on Monday in Shoreditch. Also a massive big up to Nyetimber which won a blinder with IWFS Capital Branch this evening at the RAF club in Piccadilly against sone fairly hefty Champagne Grande Marques. 🥂🍾💪🏼🇨🇦🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Some, of many wine highlights from yesterday’s Wine Australia tasting at Lindley Hall in Victoria. Yarra Valley’s Levantine highly deserve U.K. distribution now! A very fine winery indeed.

Top tasting today in ye olde London town at Level Forty Two with Association de Grands Crus Classés de Saint-Emilion. Some wonderful StE blends many of which are drinking very well now. The ‘21 Chateau Faugeres is a palate attention grabbing wine for the spondoolies. Catch ‘em if you can! 👍🏼

Anybody else ever seen a moon lit rainbow before?! Me neither until I sat on Jolly Beach in Antigua during the wolf full moon. Alas, no wine (or gold) at either end of the rainbow. 🍷🌈🍷

Anybody else think we are entering an era of prohibitionism? All starting to stack up that way with the UK wine easement disaster and a non-drinking President of USA. www.everydaydrinking.com/p/why-white-wine-is-the-future-of-wine?r=1s3me1&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

Antigua is not known for its imported South African wines 😂 so hold luggage it was for my white wine tasting in Jolly Harbour. In a competitive tasting line-up, Pieter Walser’s BLANKbottle Aasvoel was the tasters wine of the night.

If you like a bit of hoot and well informed wine podcasts then well worth checking out Henry Jeffreys and Tom Parker-Bowles’ latest podcast on English Sparkling Wine. Some surprising results there also for the French too. shows.acast.com/intoxicating...

A Christmas present result! Praise be to my dear daughter and son for knowing me so well. Answers on a postcard please! 🧑🏼‍🎄🎄🏝️🍾🥂😎
