these are our brothers and we should be building a better world together

if you are a musician who plays festivals sometimes you get booked at one that didn't get it together. you can feel it when you load in. there's a wind-swept feeling. you say, well, we'll do our best. then all day you keep looking out and goin "wow ok it's almost time." this picture is that feeling

Ah, yes, the ol' Weeping Angels maneuver.

All British mystery shows are versions of Paddington Vera: Whisky Paddington Father Brown: Priest Paddington Luther: Black Paddington Midsomer Murders: Villager Paddington

1m people allegedly in boston today. the scale of this is just crazy. i think record-breaking www.wcvb.com/article/more...

Edmonton, I want you to win real bad but I am begging you to get an anthem singer who hasn't confused "violent shaking" with "vibrato"

The violence reported is that two people drove their cars into protesters.

Good sign.

Despite warnings from the law enforcement not to attend today’s No Kings rally after this mornings shooting of Minnesota lawmakers with the killer on the lose, the No Kings Rally is happening at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul.

Assassins dress like cops & the secret police wear masks and no ID

“A deranged maniac impersonated a police officer and killed lawmakers but if you’re an immigrant be sure you immediately comply with plain clothes people who won’t identify themselves telling you to get in a van”, what a fuckin country

This country just cannot get over its default to brutal, extreme violence as the answer to absolutely everything, and it's very hard to know what other solutions could even possibly be on offer in the face of that determination to kill every perceived enemy.

The Star Tribune newsroom is doing a great job. I have my issues with Grove and his editorial board quislings but that newsroom is full of pros.

[non-Minnesotans, before you re-post the thing about the splits in the House and Senate: the legislature is not in session (literally just adjourned in the last week) and won't be back in session until next year]

In re: LRT, Minnesota is the opposite of a news desert - the Twin Cities has dozens of responsible news outlets staffed by incredibly professional journalists. They do not need your breathless, speculative assistance in covering this story. Post *local* coverage as it emerges, and ignore the noise.

Every Minnesotan is yelling at all of you to knock this off. Not competitive districts. Lege is not in session. You don't even go here. This is bad enough without the rest of the country parrotting this. Just. Fucking. Wait. For. Local. Reporting.

In case you're just waking up: there were at least two assassination attempts on Minnesota legislators overnight.

This is everywhere. Every academic institution I know is held together by some exhausted woman in her early 40's who waits until the old white male professors have finished their vague rants and says, "alright, so concretely can I propose the following next steps..." She makes half their salary.

Something that jumps out to me is the shifting boundary of “professionalism” with respect to law enforcement as opposed to say the military. Trump’s Bragg speech is getting vilified *precisely* because it throws away the professional distance of soldiers. No such expectation holds for LEO, it seems.

PSA: Fully fleshed out stories with confirmed details do not appear instantaneously. Reporters must get information, confirm it and then write it up in an article that then needs to be edited prior to publication. Everyone is working as fast as possible I assure you.

This is horrific.

I have just learned that the house that inspired Toad Hall in the Wind in the Willows was an SOE station in WW2 so am now of course pondering Mr. Toad's career as an anti-fascist paramilitary operative.

andy ngo is so pants shittingly scared of the very idea that people would stand up for what’s right that fully three years after the 2020 uprising he was still giving powerpoint presentations about how scary we were

Had an extended dream where a friendly but kangaroo-sized porcupine was continually trying (and succeeding) to get into my house.

The donors don't want their workforce deported. But you'll be subject to deportation if you quit your job or join a union or try to bargain for better wages or complain about sexual harassment.

Oh, you're doomscrolling current events? That's baby shit. I'm doomscrolling the events of 536. A volcano just erupted in Iceland. Snow just fell during the summer in China. Crops are failing. All of the crops are failing.

Junk food wouldn’t present half the problems it does if we had infrastructure that allowed people to walk a city block without getting hit by a big ass truck.

me, day before I get my work bonus: it costs the same to buy a carton of cream to make the butter yourself, plus the butter is higher quality and you get the free buttermilk! me, day of getting my work bonus: I should get a jewel encrusted scepter. Do people still carry scepters?
