Finished last night.

"It hurts and confuses us to imagine that there are anti-liberatory feminisms, but I think when we do allow that and we do conceptually break that possibility open, that’s when it becomes possible to stake out our ground as an anti-colonial, proletarian, trans feminism." —Sophie Lewis

I spoke to a class of LIS students today and the instructor put together a slide about what I did as an editor of Dewey and it was a nice thing that someone remembered what I had done.

when you roll over for the fascists in charge to keep your federal funding

We're doing a fundraising drive for one more year of librarypunk. Hosting and recording costs money, and we'd really appreciate your support to keep the show going. Everything we make will continue to be free for all, but we wanted to offer ways for people to show their support.

You've got one week left to apply to table at #CZF2025! Find the application form at chicagozinefest.org. Get in touch with any questions, but don't overthink it. 😉 #zines

As of this morning, the fundraiser to keep Semicolon Bookstore alive — with the addition of a cafe — is at $20,000. The goal is $25,000. “We can create this coffee shop venture that is going to be employee-owned, so it’s going to give the team ownership.” thetriibe.com/2025/02/semi...

Lots of folks are feeling overwhelmed and scared right now and say they don’t know what to do. Wear your masks, y’all. It’s one of the easiest, radical anti-fascist acts you can do.

I keep seeing people just do something they think maybe would be helpful and watching that snowball and it's just amazing. Don't wait for permission, don't wait to be invited. Pick something you think needs to happen and that you can do, and do that thing.

Is now a good time to say that Things I didn't Learn at Library school is back in print featuring new AI grievances, rants about hollow performance of decolonising library collections, plus all my usual hot takes on the exploitation of labour in libraries. coolschmool.bigcartel.com/product/thin...

Clarivate is a research market/business intelligence company that does some library stuff on the side. We're not their primary clients. Read "Data Cartels: The Companies That Control and Monopolize Our Information" by @sarahlamdan.bsky.social. www.sup.org/books/law/da....

A must read on the Clarivate announcement to end perpetual access to print, e-books, & digital collections by end of year. Siobhan Haimé suggests this disaster for libraries could be “an opportunity to radically explore alternative models to protect equitable access.” www.uksg.org/newsletter/u...

"Undoubtedly one of the year’s most important comics projects." ICYMI I looked at the CARTOONISTS FOR PALESTINE comics anthology this week at @brokenfrontier.bsky.social. Read our coverage here: www.brokenfrontier.com/cartoonists-... Print version published by @crucialcomix.bsky.social.

I’m on the bargaining team for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Non-Tenure Track Faculty union. We’ve been bargaining for nearly 19 months—grueling. Now we’re ready to say: we are preparing to possibly strike. We’ve launched our strike fund today app.betterunite.com/aicwufaculty...

Let's do this, metadata folks!

Hey zine makers and zine librarians: Tranzmission Prison Project, an LGBTQ+-centered prison advocacy and abolition group, is looking for digital files of zines on specific topics. They will print paper copies to share. If you can help them out, please consider it! 📚

A bunch of catalogers on the PCC list not understanding the inherent conservatism of LC administration. Sure, they technically *could* interpret a rule in a way which would go against an executive order, but they're definitely not going to. Don't look to LC for courage, library friends. #critcat 📚
