Joined, poked around, and I'm not a fan so far. Lots of complaints about how things seem to work there. Not having a desktop version at the moment is kinda a dealbreaker for me though. Maybe when that gets released some of my other complaints will have been addressed, but some seem intentional.

It's in the park right across from my favorite coffee shop so I'll be visiting it often to see how the scene changes through the year. Probably no more snow until next year but I'm hoping for something interesting during spring when it should start to stand out against the background again.

This one probably has more trouble frying an egg.
Your series with this waterfall really shows how much timing and patience matter in making a photo. Good work.

Just don't get too distracted by what the bird is doing.

To me, these things just look like they made early 2000s Yahoo avatars 3D.

Pour over. @jameshoffmann.bsky.social recipe.
If I had the kitchen counter space I'd get an espresso machine and do a cortado but that'll have to wait for when I can move.

Theirs probably will though.

Sometimes when you're photographing animals it just becomes a weird one all on its own. Then you can make it weirder in post by flipping it upside down. Not like that's happened to me or anything.

Were there any clear paw prints, or had wind already obscured most of the tracks?

Gonna go outside and watch birds. Probably not owls unless I get really lucky.
Best time to go to the park is when there's a big event that keeps people indoors.

Thank you! This weather was really a treat for me.

I tried going back to the same spot the following day, but conditions weren't nearly as good. There was more snow on the background, less snow on the subject tree, and that beautiful bit of mist on the ground was gone.

I find them useful in several ways.
Searching for things and feeds.
If a user posts about a variety of topics but I'm only interested in one of them, I can see all posts from a user with that specific hashtag.
Then I can block genAI tags.

Yeah one of his photos pretty directly inspired my picking up a real camera again. And taking learning it more seriously this time. This one got me out of the house to watch fog early the next morning and I liked it so much that I wanted to take better pictures than my phone was giving me.

Hey I recognize that one from Youtube. Welcome to Bluesky!

No other public facing socials other than here.
I'm active on Discord but the nature of the platform feels so different that it's difficult to compare.

It might not actually be the "text first" approach, but that I dislike grid presentation for images unless the grid itself is a cohesive piece of art. I'd rather give each image plenty of its own space. You wouldn't find a grid in a museum.

I really like the powerful user controlled tools that let us curate our own experience here. Custom feeds and lists are fantastic.
Even if a site more like instagram would fit my interest focus of photography and art better, I like the text first presentation of sites like this more.

I had been meaning to look up what that tree I saw yesterday was. And there it is.

I was even thinking about where that other tree was when I took the picture because it completely overlapped where I first walked up. Just need to slow down a little and consider what's in front of me more instead of what I might find when I keep walking.

Camera backpack is my next photography acquisition. I need to be able to get to my gear without completely unpacking, which is my current situation.

This composition strongly reminds me of something... I think an album cover. What album? Not sure. I've tried to find it. Is it some kind of weird deja vu? Maybe.
I'd listen to this album though.

This is what has driven me away from all the other networks. If I follow someone, it's because I want to see what they're posting! Wow!
I don't care how much engagement a post is getting. If I followed someone, show me. If I didn't, don't add it to my home feed randomly.

The conditions certainly didn't do my any favors on getting a good exposure here. Taken around 11am from Mount Washington, nearly directly due North from Rainier, so everything was backlit. Properly exposing the bird while keeping the snow on Rainier distinct from the clouds was a challenge.

I'm still learning my editing tools. Have I made this better, worse, or some of both? Is there something I should have done more or less on? The tools for masking and spot adjustments in rawtherapee are extremely far from intuitive. Bit of a struggle there. #photography

I like where the tree is placed left to right in this one and the space on the right for the branch to reach out into, but I also like the view of the branches on top of the vertical one. Both have merits and I'm not sure which I like better.

I wasn't trying to say anything like "everyone does it because it's easy or simple" but "I follow every time I see it because I love it". Sorry if I came across as the former.

I feel like foggy trees and clouds on mountains are a big part of the work for close to 90% of the photographers I've followed. Nothing gets my follow faster.

Yeah I'm super happy I picked up nature photography again this year. Being outside in nature has been really important for me recently.

I've also seen DNS changes can take 24-48 hours to propagate so if you just added the DNS record it's possible you're getting served bluesky from a server that can't see the DNS change yet while for some reason my server can.

Works fine on my end. That showed up a bunch for a while when bsky was having server issues a while ago.

Hah that's about what my knowledge is like too. I can read specs to find what the parts of the file do (vaguely) but what the numbers mean about what ends up on the screen is mostly a mystery.
