A Tagesschau survey from 24 February casts light on the 'mystery' of AfD rise: www.tagesschau.de/wahl/archiv/...

According to a population survey by the STEM company, more than half of the respondents in #Czechia are in favour of providing support to Ukrainian #refugees. The level of support has barely moved since September 2023. www.stem.cz/na-ceske-ver...

USA: Let’s make as many enemies as we can, as fast as we can. If this was the intention, it’s going to plan, and amazingly so.

The Brussels think-tank Bruegel gets down to business. I like the spirit.

1/5 At @munsecconf.bsky.social, US VP Vance said that “The number of immigrants who entered the EU from non-EU countries doubled between 2021 and 2022 alone... . It’s the result of a series of conscious decisions made by politicians all over the continent.”

Some of my observations in today's Euractiv. - The solidarity mechanism, a part of the New Pact on Migration, will not force Poland or any other country to accept asylum transfers. The mechanism allows a country to choose other options for providing solidarity, like money or helicopters.

The Schengen zone is in dire straits. According to a poll run by the SW Research agency for the Polish daily Rzeczpospolita, 62 % respondents agreed with the statement that the EU should reintroduce border controls between Schengen countries to stop the influx of immigrants.

1/3 The new president continues with his authoritarian assault on US institutions. Former officials who were being considered for positions within the intelligence community, were asked to give “yes” or “no” responses to the questions: Was Jan. 6 “an inside job?” wapo.st/3EF3aWN

Germany is fighting back.

Demography is slowly beginning to take its rightful place in the European public debate. We at Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies are contributing to this movement. We've now published the final iteration of our 7D project. In five chapters, the #Demography section of 7D covers:

Euractiv: 'Poland still says no to EU Migration Pact. For the Polish government, no means no.' Except nothing that the ministers are saying implies that Poland will refuse to implement the Pact. In this case, 'no' might just as well mean 'yes'. Why? www.euractiv.com/section/poli...

A court in Rome, again, ordered that migrants intercepted by Italian authorities in the Mediterranean be transferred to Italy. The court refered the matter to the Court of Justice of the EU. www.reuters.com/world/europe...

"Security is a fundamental right" EU's commissioner for internal affairs and migration Magnus Brunner. Thanks for the clear words, @magnusbrunner.bsky.social This in the context of violence that's perpetrated by people who should have been removed from the German / EU territory but were not.

So much of what Trump and Musk are doing smells like the communist takeovers in Eastern Europe after WW2. Except that in the US now, it’s happening much faster and more radically.

Who would have thought this would ever happen? But the title of the WPR commentary is correct. The West hasn't been in such a mess since 1945. Under Trump, U.S. Hegemony Is Entering Full Predatory Mode: www.worldpoliticsreview.com/trump-us-heg...
