Last night I went to see an REM cover band fronted by actor Michael Shannon. They played Fables of the Reconstruction start to finish & then did a second set of deep cuts. Peter Buck came out & played on the last 5 songs or so. It was fantastic.

Please take a few minutes today & read this piece by @rtraister.bsky.social. I have tried to write/say something similar several times over the last month but find myself too choked by rage & futility to get through anything. Rebecca says it all:

Performative naivety is the price of entry to VSP circles.

I hope there is some media outlet, nonprofit institution, or university that has set itself the simple task: *remember this*. One of the most shocking & disturbing things about Trump's first term was how the vast bulk of it just vanished down the memory hole almost as soon as it happened.

The Silicon Valley bros want to take over defense, too. What a nightmare.

jesusfuckingchrist

A loathsome, evil person, as responsible as any single human being for the destruction of US democracy. I hope some day to piss on his grave.

A good page to bookmark for our current political era:

Today on Volts: I talk with the lead utility regulator in Massachusetts about the state's "Future of Gas" proceeding, which lays out a process for phasing methane out of the energy mix over the next 25 years. We discuss the political challenges, utility dynamics, thermal energy networks, and more.

This was very good! Even as things seem hopeless/awful at the federal level, you can make a big difference locally working on things like housing and transit

Try explaining to someone who hasn't been keeping up with politics that the apparatus of US government has been taken over by a small band of nazis.

Wilhoit in action.

Love to see Volts tackling housing! We've got so much potential for building up in Chicago near our transit, but our aldermanic perogative and NIMBYism often gets in the way 🫠 Related: The rents (ESPECIALLY near transit) are too damn high

Check out two incredible member leaders from our network @annemariegray.bsky.social of @opennewyork.org & Felicity Maxwell of @texansforhousing.bsky.social telling the incredible stories of their local successes & the power gained from a national network of pro-housing activists & organizers.

A very interesting episode, by @volts.wtf ! I bet some of these concerns & strategies apply to #toronto as well!

Dude is falling apart.

"The world's glaciers are melting faster than ever recorded under the impact of climate change, according to the most comprehensive scientific analysis to date." Probably fine.

Oh?

In his inaugural speech, new Secretary of Energy Chris Wright invoked Germany as a cautionary tale. It will perhaps not surprise you to learn that he said a bunch of dumb, wrong shit.

A new report from the Brattle Group shows that eliminating IRA's clean-energy tax credits would increase generation costs, eliminate jobs, & slow US economic growth. Importantly, this report was commissioned by ConservAmerica, a *conservative group*. conservamerica.org/wp-content/u...

Defend congestion pricing at all costs.

Hot preview!

"For generations, the U.S. academy has been a pillar of soft power and economic dynamism. That is being thrown away now—not on the scale of years but of months, even weeks. The damage being done is not yet irreparable but that point is rapidly (*rapidly*) approaching."
