I read a piece on McConnell a coupla years ago that tried to find out what motivated him and it creeped me out so hard that the answer seemed to be nothing beyond love for the game, damn the consequences
Other people get more attention, but two things McConnell did rank among the worst political acts of the last century:
1. Making the filibuster automatic & routine, effectively rendering the legislative branch useless for anything but tax bills.
2. Refusing to hold hearings on a SCOTUS justice.
People are so used to the filibuster that they forget it was only weaponized by McConnell. Previously it had been used selectively. D's started using it more against GWB but not until Mitch was it assumed every bill required 60 votes.
All great points! I've been thinking about McConnell a bit lately, and I view him as a tragic figure, someone who thought he was leading the GOP into a bright new (pro-business) future, but instead drove it (and in some ways the country) right into the arms of Trump. THAT'S his legacy IMHO...
McConnell is an evil piece of shit for many reasons, notably stealing two Supreme Court seats. But I'll always remember him as the first major US politician (as far as I know) who knowingly participated in a foreign enemy's acts of war against the US, back in 2016. Actual treason.
@volts.wtf If you’re going to pick two (among many) it’s got to be refusing to support impeachment after J6 and refusing to allow Garland nomination to move forward (which, in addition to horrible SCOTUS rulings this facilitated, had the knock on effect of having us stuck with him as AG)
You're absolutely right, *and* I'm pissed the Democrats didn't take the opportunity when they had to change to either put the real filibuster back or abolish the fake one.
Oh right. I forgot what I had for breakfast so I couldn’t remember. Don’t worry, I’m more than capable to make decisions as a senator and my competence shouldn’t be called into question
He's only leaving because he can't walk the length of the Senate without face planting once or twice a day. I have a theory that it's the work of Democrats past who are so angry with him that they've pushed through into this dimension.

Seeing him retire in disgrace and become universally loathed is close enough.
Moving on to find my extra motivation in surviving Alito now.
1. Making the filibuster automatic & routine, effectively rendering the legislative branch useless for anything but tax bills.
2. Refusing to hold hearings on a SCOTUS justice.
-Merrick Garland instead of Neil Gorsuch
-a Biden appointed replacement for RBG instead of ACB
Instead, a convicted felon has appointed 1/3 of the Supreme Court, and before he’s done he could appoint 2/3 of it.
