Coming around to the view that a certain kind of narcissist simply needs Musk to be a genius rather than a fraud, because they want to believe there’s a hereditary Brahmin class of accomplished, beautiful minds—and that they’re a part of that class.

We held the floor all night to fight the GOP plan to gut health care to pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest few. Now I'm strategizing with NY labor leaders, healthcare advocates, organizers on how we’re going to keep fighting the GOP plan to help their billionaire buddies. This is for the people.

A defining policy battle is about to come to a head in this country. The Republican budget will force everyone - especially Congress and the White House - to make plain whether they are prepared to harm the rest of us in order to fund tax cuts for the wealthiest.

I was at a punk show in 83 where a skinhead jumped up on stage and gave a Nazi salute. The bass player hit him with his bass, knocking him into the crowd and 150 people collectively hauled his ass out of the venue and threw him in the mud. This was the right and only appropriate response.

Freedom, opportunity, the rule of law, constitutional and competent government, equal justice, accountability, affordability, anti-corruption, truth, and character-driven leadership. Defend them all with us this weekend.

TOP DEM POLLSTER: The more New Yorkers learn about the MONSTER that is ANDREW CUOMO the less they will accept him as their mayor. So many of us New Yorkers are ready to show who he is. An abuser. A liar. A crook who constantly helps himself at the expense of New Yorkers. t.co/REla7UwBrn

I keep thinking about Trump saying that he needed the kind of generals that Hitler had.

Sadly, with these blatantly political firings, every single general and flag officer nominee going forward must be asked publicly under oath by SASC what sort of loyalty oaths, if any, they swore to the Administration.

when I was younger I thought the subplot of Ender’s Game in which Ender’s siblings shitpost themselves into running the world was the least realistic part of the book I am coming around to the idea that it was by far the most realistic

DOGE’s gaslight accounting is getting covered from multiple outlets. A sampling from just this week: @politico.com @bloomberg.com @nytimes.com @nbcnews.com

One of them has already apologized for a cabinet confirmation vote, saying the guy betrayed promises he made during confirmation Such a person should never have political power again If a Nazi promises they're not going to be that bad, taking them at their word is AT BEST crushingly inept

I think the two biggest determining factors to how democrats handle the discontent brewing in their house is (1) how many retire vs get pushed out and (2) how the handle the budget fight, because that will shape how democrats fight the many other battles to come

“Russia is not a country forged by shared values, common beliefs or a unifying purpose — it is an empire assembled by force, bound together by lies and sustained through the theft of other peoples’ art, culture and history.” thehill.com/opinion/inte...

Democrats are fundamentally misunderstanding the moment: We're not asking them to be *legislators* right now. We need them to be *politicians.* There's nothing to be done about the legislative situation. They're right about that. But there's PLENTY to be done as politicians.

Response of Rep. Stephen Lynch of Massachusetts this week when a constituent demanded he stop voting with Republicans: www.masslive.com/politics/202...

From the get go of the second Trump administration, it was clear that the president would try to pass a bunch of executive orders without any clear indication that he, or his trusted advisors, actually knew if it was legal. www.democracydocket.com/analysis/wha...

Trump Urges Musk to Intensify DOGE Aggression Amid Declining Polls Trump ignores constituent unrest

free hint to blue state govs: automatically offer jobs in your own state's security services to the various cops, prosecutors and armed forces members that trump is unfairly drumming out. you will need people with guns who hate trump for what is coming next, and... there they are

Prediction: the Nаzi salute will become common within 2 years. RWers will half-аss it for plausible deniability, memeify the backlash, then start fully doing it "as a joke" "to troll the libs" "for being hysterical enough to think we were doing it in the first place"

I wrote about how particularly ridiculous it is that Senate Democrats, led by Dick Durbin, think the priority should be repealing Section 230 and undermining the very open internet we need more than ever right now. www.techdirt.com/2025/02/21/w...

biden was a great president except when it came to what he imagined to be his area of expertise (foreign policy), his electoral proposition (he is a white guy everyone likes), and the most important thing he was called upon to do (permanently incapacitate donald trump)

the modal freshman dem in 2026 is going to be an ex agency staffer foaming at the mouth to put republican electeds in prison

The NYT is deeply invested at an institutional level in boosting Trump

none of these people have any concept of duty or decorum or service, all of them are absolute rat bastards who are unqualified to hold any job and should be ejected from any group of respectable americans.

"During the meeting, Ukraine was told it faced imminent shutoff of the Starlink service if it did not reach a deal on critical minerals, said the source, who requested anonymity to discuss closed negotiations." Astonishing betrayal of an ally. www.reuters.com/business/us-...

it's really saying something that this is how an apparent friend explains Elon's goals www.vanityfair.com/news/story/e...

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

I'm about to drop a piece at The Atlantic on this Pentagon purge. As I warned, Trump is capturing Justice, Intelligence, the military. This is praetorianism, pure and simple.

conditioning disaster aid that californians have paid into simply to force policies on californians who don’t want them is as straightforward an abrogation of the spirit of the union as one can imagine and red states had better be prepared to accept retributions in kind

the reason that the american right are leaning *hard* into their immorality - which they themselves understand very clearly to be immoral - is, at the bottom of it, they don’t believe in *anything*.

My great Uncle Frankie didn’t liberate Dachau for this piece of shit sell us out like this.

very cool discourse on the Army subreddit rn

The consequences of the illegal shutdown of USAID:

I'm really nervous about this. A lot of cities never dug themselves out of the COVID-19 housing shortage, and now tariffs and labor shortages are about to make it a lot harder to build. We need massive zoning/fee relief and streamlining, yesterday.

Our new FBI Director sells a supplement that “detoxes other people’s vaccines out of your body.” Sure. Why not.

The Republican Party has been the motivating force behind most visceral patriotism in my life, because their efforts to destroy the cosmopolitan liberal democracy in which I was born have made me realize that I am in fact quite attached to it, and willing to countenance a lot in it’s defense.

Three things that make the U.S. the envy of the world: 1) Professionalized military with strong norm of civilian control 2) Higher education and cutting-edge scientific research 3) Ability to welcome immigrants and attract the “best and the brightest” All three are under threat.

this is not where you want to be in the opening stages of your project to bludgeon the American population into submission so you can destroy their government

there's simultaneously two major trendlines occurring with this administration 1. laying waste to a lot of what keeps government/society stable in a really reckless way 2. loudly telegraphing that they see themselves as above accountability ("what are you gonna do?")

Specifically in North America. They are pulling out of Europe, Africa and the Middle East because their primary geopolitical objective is a reign of blood in America, Mexico and Canada.

it is shocking the extent to which they openly sneer at morality

This is very, very bad. Am working on a write-up, but let’s just say that firing military leaders for blatantly political reasons is wildly inappropriate; firing all the too lawyers is ominous; firing them all at the same time is a terrifying five-alarm fire
