By accepting Trump’s anti-Black premise and regurgitating the narrative that equates anything Black as DEI, the NY Times has become part of the propaganda machine

Built by Black Hands, Lived in by Hypocrisy “Don’t tell me you reject DEI when you live in a White House built by Black hands.” Sen. Raphael Warnock isn’t mincing words—Trump’s attack on DEI is a direct assault on history, equity, and opportunity. Diversity isn’t a privilege. It built America.

Last night @60minutes.bsky.social opened an otherwise superb segment on Germany’s approach to online hate speech by saying “in the U.S., most of what’s said on online [social media] platforms is protected by the First Amendment.” No.The First Amend protects us against GOVT infringements on speech.

Mitch McConnell growing a conscience the minute after he completed his duties as the handmaiden of Trump's authoritarian takeover is Death of Stalin level dark comedy.

Trump's approach to everything is to dismantle systems and make people negotiate with him personally. For everything. Even with tariffs, which loves for some reason, the main goal isn't necessarily the tariffs, but to become the single veto point through which all policy flows.

It's really not hyperbole to say Musk purchased a shadow presidency for $280 million and in his shadow inaugural address did a Nazi salute.

Normalizing spelling out what people actually mean when they cite DEI rather than letting them hide behind the safe cover of a euphemism that's been sapped of meaning

It's remarkable how Susan Collins turned pretending to be a credulous idiot into a winning and sustainable political formula, but she has.

The entire presidency is going to be one single (hopefully only) four year long grift. Every day will be stupider and more infuriating than the last. Gird your loins.

People more familiar with the legal system will jump in to say why I’m wrong, but honestly fuck them. The fact that this case didn’t come to trial in FOUR FUCKING YEARS is inexcusable. Just a complete failure at every level. I don’t care why it’s impossible. Democracy was on the line. Find a way.

Kudos to @jenrubin.bsky.social for making the move that cemented my unsubscribing from the Washington Post. I was torn; the Post has some great writers, but I don’t like supporting an ownership meddling in editorial decision-making. (Thread) open.substack.com/pub/contrarian…

I don’t have anything insightful or novel to say about Jan 6, other than it’s the day I completely lost my sense of humor about Trump. I can’t laugh at anything related to him since that day, no matter how funny or ridiculous. Any time I see, hear, or think about him there’s only room for anger.

It is important for all Americans to understand that Donald Trump has no intention of leaving office after taking it on January 20. None. Do I think he has a plan in mind already? Probably not. But is he taking his Oath of Office as a man who expects American democracy to continue? No, he is not.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that a horrific attack by a brown person ignites talks about who should and shouldn’t be in America. The #NOLA attack was perpetrated by a domestic terrorist. The attack at a Tops supermarket in Buffalo, NY in 2022 was also perpetrated by a domestic terrorist.

Smart #business leaders won't cave to the war on #inclusion "Amid a high-profile backlash, many businesses are scrutinizing their policies. But the vast majority end up sticking with #DEI, in part because it’s key to growth." - @daphnehowland.bsky.social writes www.retaildive.com/news/retail-...

Who hasn't bowed to the Felon publications: Pro Publica Rolling Stone PBS Vanity Fair (I’m not sure, but maybe The New Yorker?) Mother Jones Deadline Whitehouse with Nicole Wallace, The Rachel Maddow Show, The ReidOut with Joy Reid, The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell, All In with Chris Hayes.

Corporate media, a play in 3 acts

The UnitedHealthCare CEO op-ed isn’t for you. That op-ed and most of The Times’ content is focused on reassuring the white middle class and the political class that the status quo may not be perfect but it’s the best it can be, thereby negating any need for reform or guilt.

Homeboy stopped the wrong lady (H/T @agirlhasnopres.bsky.social )

Over 2+ years of working on a biography of Elon Musk, I've learned that his ambitions are significantly grander than anyone realizes. He wants to be the first trillionaire ever. He wants to be the most famous human who ever lived. He wants to rule the world. He wants to live forever. All literally.

Let’s talk about the arrest of Luigi Mangione. Innocent until proven guilty isn’t just a phrase—it’s a cornerstone of justice. Even in high-profile cases, even when police claim they have evidence, we can’t take their word as truth. Check out my latest video here: youtube.com/shorts/4CCLr...

But let’s stop calling it DOGE. A federal “Department” has legal significance and must be authorized by Congress - not just by the announcement of a man not yet President and his largest donor. Think “Department” of Homeland Security. Stop diminishing legal structures by adopting their lexicon.

Wild to me that back when I was a public policy volunteer with Planned Parenthood, they stressed the importance of maintaining SCOTUS's balance or shifting it further left to protect reproductive and other rights. And their predictions were spot on about what will happen should it become more cons.

1. In April 2024, California raised the minimum wage for fast food chains to $20/hour The industry claimed it would be devastating & require significant job cuts and prices increases Here is what really happened: workers got a raise, prices went modestly, and the industry continued to add jobs

This is important

Pittsburgh Regional Transit is the latest transit system to offer large employers massive discounts (~70%) -- if they buy passes for all their workers. Similar bulk purchasing programs have boosted ridership in cities like Seattle and Philly. www.unionprogress.com/2024/11/28/p...

I hope everyone is paying close attention to how the Hunter Biden pardon is being covered. If you wondered why Trump and his cronies can betray America and commit ceaseless crimes for years without consequences but Democrats can't right obviously partisan wrongs, the current media reaction is why.
