Christopher Hitchens wrote a strong piece on partition as one of the world's worst ideas. It was published in the Atlantic ca. 2003 and I read it slightly later. You could tell it was a Hitchens essay because (a) it was trenchant and unsparing in its views, and (b) it began by discussing W.H. Auden.
