Whatever... No need to keep arguing, we're getting nowhere. I'll leave it with one last point : a reason why we should loudly defend minority rights, regardless of political strategy, is because it's the right thing to do. In the end, that's what matters.
comment in response to post
Yes, but methods are just as important as goals. That being said, you'll notice I've been polite because I want to believe that you and the other guy have the interest of all workers at heart. But I also think that if people like you are making decisions, the far-right will keep winning.
comment in response to post
I agree with that. I don't trust centrists. I'm talking to self-proclaimed leftist here.
comment in response to post
Okay. One last time and then I give up. You defend minorities because, otherwise, non-minorities will vote conservative out of fear of them. That's my argument. You haven't answered it yet.
comment in response to post
Again. Not listening. I'm not defending Harris. I'm saying one of the reasons she lost is because she wasn't advocating for minorities, instead being a statu quo warrior as you say.
comment in response to post
They don't. That's the issue. You are the one who is most in line with them here.
comment in response to post
If you build a counter narrative, you can convince them that they aren't monsters and that's easier to do because that's the truth. But if you don't you leave room for Reps to keep using them as a Boogeyman to divide the workers. Defending minorities is not a cost to bear, it's a winning strategy.
comment in response to post
Independants are being put off by, let's say for example, trans-people because the only voices that mention them are Republican media, not because they are fundamentally bigoted.
comment in response to post
Have you watched the last election? When was Harris talking about minority rights? How often was she mentioning the fact that she is a black woman? How often was she defending Haitians or trans-athletes when republicans were attacking them? Don't you think there might be something to learn there?
comment in response to post
Of course you can't when I'm talking about SHOWING solidarity. You can't show anything quietly and without making a fuss. You need to loudly proclaim that you stand with all other workers, otherwise you're leaving room for division.
comment in response to post
Really? Are you saying they couldn't do that when Obama or Biden where in power? They don't need to be in power to spread their message when they control most of the media.
comment in response to post
You are not listening. I am in favor of policy to help the workers, regardless of their identity. We agree on that. But you also need to be vocal about the need for solidarity with these minorities. It's not even about policy, but about discourse.
comment in response to post
Not mentioning minority rights is throwing them under the bus. Because if we don't actually defend them, the Right won't stop attacking them. If you let your opponent win, you are complicit in their actions.
comment in response to post
And also, if you don't reaffirm the rights of those who are minoritized, conservatives will use it as an excuse to vilify them and create a coalition based on fear to rally the workers, despite working against their interests. It's not an hypothetical, it happens every election!
comment in response to post
Yes, you need BOTH. You can't give up on either front. Idpol might not seem like a big deal to you if you're cis, white and straight but for those who aren't, it's essential as their fundamental right to exist is in the balance. If you cast them aside, you will never for an effective coalition
comment in response to post
Dude... All these issues are linked. You can't have class solidarity without solidarity around race, sexuality, gender identity... because the forces of capital use these issues to divide the workers. If we don't show unity on that topic, conservatives will keep winning by brandishing some boogeyman
comment in response to post
Okay, I'm not going to defend that, that's not good and it's worth criticizing. But also... That's just a sponsorship. It's not like he created or financed that thing. I wouldn't go as far as to say that it "ruins his credibility" especially after years of advocating for rightful causes.

My "I'm no involved in child trafficking" shirt raises a lot of questions already answered by my shirt.

Guess only time will tell but I'm not optimistic.

I don't think "morally justified" is correct. She knows that she is going against the spirit of the rule and that's why she uses the letter of the law as a defense.
comment in response to post
That might be true for some subjects, but not for all. Notably for stuff like maths and programming, the assignment often simply requires you to know something and to apply it correctly. That's why it's basically undetectable by teachers.

Really? Remember how fast smartphones became an essential accessory. Especially for teenagers/young adults, just a few years represent most of their life as autonomous non-children. Sadly, she is right. AI have invaded our lives to a degree that is completely irreversible now.

Hope you're proud of what you did! :(

This one isn't very funny...

In French the most common expression would be "Il pleut des cordes." (It's raining ropes) There are multiple ones but I never hears that one about a pissing cow.

This is one of the most embarassing things I've read in a long while and the bar is set really high.

Very weird indeed. I wonder where that might lead them. 🤔

That's because the complete sentence would be "I object in the strongest terms (that I'm allowed to use, you motherfucker)."

I don't know... Deportation is what we call what the nazis did so I think it brings up the right image.
comment in response to post
My personal assumption was that it was referring to the barrels of gunpowder aboard a warship. But after checking, it seems to be about food which is less exciting and way more disgusting when you think about the kind of stuff you might have to scrap to get from the bottom.
comment in response to post
Welp... MAYBE he'd be the "poster child against deportations" because he indeed exemplifies one of the many reasons why they are terrible and shouldn't happen. But no. Let's not take any lessons from the outcome of our actions and keep going in the same direction, straight toward the cliff.

I agree with the sentiment, but please, stop it with that "do better" shit. I know it's supposed to be less harsh than other formulation but it comes off as so condescending and insulting. "Be careful" would have been perfectly fine.
comment in response to post
It probably doesn't matter but I also void it just in case.

While I don't entirely disagree... There is racism toward eastern-Europeans too. People wouldn't be the same with German refugees for instance. That being said, in this case, it's more a matter of international relations and showing that the US now sides with Russia in this war.

Doit-on en conclure que "Liberté" est le nom de l'aigle?

I think he meant Uranos who did father the Titans (although "raised" probably isn't isn't the best word given he shoved them back inside their mother's womb) You could say that Uranos wasn't a god in the same sense as Zeus, but that's just being pedantic and you don't need that to shit on that loser

Simple curiosity but what do you mean by "dumpster fire structuring"?

What was that?

I think the best way is just to keep reading more stuff. That's the quickest way to get more familiar with vocabulary and its common uses. Also note that written and spoken French are almost two different languages, so I wouldn't get worried if I didn't get some stuff.

Nice! Maybe put some sort of fog effect on the screen for a few seconds after the initial cloud dissipates to make it feel a little more like actual smoke spreading in the air?
