Great paper on Airborne Transmission Risk Assessment in a classroom, an office, a ward, an ICU. Findings: - FFP2 respirators cut the viral dose by a factor of 13. - An 8h exposure in a poorly ventilated office can equate to the risk of a 15 mn face-to-face. royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/...

Big Announcement! Share Your Story & Be Part of an Exhibit at the Museum of Vancouver! 📸 My team is excited to announce the Fall 2025 launch of “A Day in the Life of a Longhauler,” a Photovoice project and exhibit. Canadian longhaulers, submit by April 30: www.surveymonkey.ca/r/YourPhotos

I appreciate this response from Ed Yong on why he requests that people mask at his events. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/m...

Every time I hear peers use language like "During COVID", "post-COVID", "During the pandemic", "back during COVID" -- I want to interrupt and say: "..you mean, now?" Language matters.

I reviewed @carlzimmer.com's new book Airborne. "His book is an enthralling historical exploration of the role of airborne microorganisms in disease, and examines why these pathogens have been overlooked for centuries." www.nature.com/articles/d41... /1

'Stanford must end its complicity in COVID harms' 'As one of the many Stanford alumni who have had their lives turned upside down by contracting Long COVID, I’m very disappointed that Stanford is legitimizing the views of those who have openly downplayed..' stanforddaily.com/2025/02/13/s...

This is 100% the next step for a society that has collapsed any semblance of a social safety net and has broken down regulations, public health and any other measures that would lessen epigenetic contributors to disability. Sicken and debilitate people, then call them useless eaters and eliminate

When kids have ongoing symptoms after illness, moms often struggle to be heard. Advocacy matters—because no one knows your child better than you. Read one mother’s journey of fighting for answers. #PediatricLongCovid #LongCovidFamilies

Extremely well done. Should be mandatory reading. “Long COVID is an everyone problem because everyone has blood vessels, a gut microbiome, ACE-2 receptors, T cells, and a blood-brain barrier…it is devastating, and it is happening to people every day. And it can happen to you, after any infection.”

Honoured to be amongst such distinguished fellow researchers! May the recognition I receive also recognize the patients, caregivers, & care providers so deeply impacted by Long COVID. We’ll continue to highlight longhauler voices & raise awareness that LC can affect anyone in this ongoing pandemic.

Canadian COVID Forecast: Feb 1-14, 2025 SEVERE: ON VERY HIGH: CAN, AB, MB, North, QC HIGH: BC, NB, NL, NS, PEI, SK MODERATE: none About 1 in 42 people in Canada are CURRENTLY infected.

DYK? Since July 2022, the lag between COVID-19 symptom onset and a positive PCR test is 4.5-6.5 days. You might test positive earlier than 5 days after symptom onset, but it can be up to one week. That's PCR--with RATs you're even less likely to test positive within the first 5 days of symptoms.

“CDC researchers were instructed to remove references to or mentions of a list of forbidden terms: “Gender, transgender, pregnant person, pregnant people, LGBT, transsexual, non-binary, nonbinary, assigned male at birth, assigned female at birth, biologically male, biologically female.””

This is horrific. Official report from Canadian public health group contains made-up science. #medsky #episky

Covid is not a cold or the flu. Never was or will be. Though it might just cause you to die from another infection, like flu or RSV. But let’s be clear. Covid kills far more people. Always did and will continue to… until we install precautions that protect us from all airborne pathogens.

I'm working on a story for @thesicktimes.bsky.social about how the Trump admin health communications "pause" will impact NIH RECOVER. Email or message me if you'd like to chat ([email protected], DM for my # on Signal). I am happy to keep people anonymous.

🧵 STATEMENT: WHO expresses deep concern on the implications of the immediate funding pause for #HIV programmes in low- and middle-income countries. These programmes provide access to life-saving HIV therapy to more than 30 million people worldwide. Read more bit.ly/42yxxIz 1/5

The BMJ desk-rejected our paper on safety in remote consultations. It later won Research Paper of the Year Award. Now BMJ is publishing a ‘hot pick’ summary of our findings written by someone else. Ah well, so long as the word gets out I guess! @bmj.com www.bmj.com/content/388/...

Of course we can't even be given one day of peace to celebrate Lunar New Year...

NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research. Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions

The Trump admin has cancelled the panels that approve NIH grants, & is also banning scientists from communicating with the public, attending conferences, and hiring. NIH is the largest funder of biomedical research in the world. This will severely halt the development of many lifesaving treatments.

New: Trump officials have paused all external communications at health agencies like CDC, FDA, NIH. No health alerts and the famed MMWRs; no updates to key websites or social media posts. And no indication how long the pause will last. With @rachelroubein.bsky.social + Lena Sun.

David Lynch passes away at 78 after a battle with emphysema. He had stated in 2024 that he could no longer leave his home due to the high risk of Covid. If more people would mask up, we wouldn’t have to isolate. “You do you” policies leave people like Lynch with no choice but to “just stay home”

Why are our kids sick all the time? Read this as many times as you need to

staff at the Vancouver Public Library report being told they cannot wear a keffiyeh unless they speak "Palestinian Arabic" or are wearing it as "culture attire." curious how such a policy could be enforced without explicitly racist inquiries!! themainlander.com/2025/01/16/p...

Note that this is an independent developer building this. But that's very cool. This is what an open network enables.

Can’t get much more ironic than this. But it really shows that mutual aid is the future as governments abandon the interests of the poor and working class (and middle class).

i’m just so blown away by what LA can do

We are excited about the CDC promoting N95 and KN95 as a preventive strategy against highly contagious pathogens. Our government needs to address the #LongCovid crisis and prepare for new pandemics. This message gives us hope. #MaskTogetherAmerica www.facebook.com/masktogether...

A 67 year old amputee and wheelchair user lived with his son who had cerebral palsy. They were killed in the Eaton fire while waiting for an ambulance that never arrived. Many disabled people can not evacuate on their own. They need to be included in evacuation plans (yet almost never are)

Oh that's so very good🙏🏻🙏🏻 May I pinch this? Perfect for Long Cövid talks💖

Almost all of Canada's Premiers are Conservative so this is... not great.

RECOVER-Treating Long COVID (TLC) hosted another webinar this afternoon to share updates on the initiative (following a similar webinar in November). Major updates I flagged: 1. TLC has started to form working groups around different therapeutic areas to determine which therapies should be trialed.

Today @thesicktimes.bsky.social: COVID-19 advocates are distributing masks to protect Californians from wildfire smoke. "I’m so grateful that these networks that we built up for clean air in regards to COVID are exactly the same ones that we can use right now," says @itsbabs.bsky.social.

New: Meta has deleted trans and nonbinary Messenger themes, as well as the blog posts announcing them. Happens the same week that it has changed its rules to allow users to say LGBTQ+ people are "mentally ill" www.404media.co/meta-deletes...

Cannot stop thinking about how Octavia Butler wrote a book in 1993 about climate change. It opens with deadly fires in LA in 2025. In the story, a fascist President has just won office with the campaign slogan "Make America Great Again." She was a modern day Nostradamus. If only we'd listened.
