NEW: We signed a letter to the Federal Communications Commission urging them to protect the freedom of the press. The FCC's politically-motivated investigations of media organizations undermines the First Amendment and must be stopped.

As Shawn VanDiver points out, this means any Afghans who worked with US troops and have so far managed to escape Taliban retribution would nonetheless be completely banned from coming to the United States as part of our promise to protect them. Another group of allies, betrayed.

"[The Trump administration is] coercing nations who are at a much greater socioeconomic disadvantage than the US, so they feel coerced to accept migrants...We're essentially sentencing a lot of people to their death," says AALDEF's Razeen Zaman. Read more here: www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-a...

The Protecting Sensitive Locations Act would make schools, churches, and hospitals safer for all people, including immigrant families and children – and help law enforcement maintain public safety. AILA endorses the bill.

The dissolution of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI) is a devastating loss. For over two decades, it served as a vital bridge between the federal government and AANHPI communities—one that was long overdue and hard-won.

Yesterday, the AALDEF team appeared as co-counsel before the New York State Court of Appeals in Fossella v Adams, continuing to advocate for Local Law 11, which would allow green card holders and those with work authorizations to vote in local NYC elections and ballot referendums.

The Florida bill "would repeal a provision that allows children of undocumented immigrants whose parents brought them to the U.S. as children to get in-state tuition [and] create a role of 'immigration czar' in the state."

"Mr. Trump's actions have closed pathways for vetting and legally admitting hundreds of thousands of people fleeing war-torn Ukraine, Taliban-controlled Afghanistan and other troubled parts of the world, including crisis-stricken Haiti and Venezuela."

"The orders significantly increase the chance that officers will engage in more indiscriminate enforcement tactics or face accusations of civil rights violations as they strain to meet quotas, according to current and former ICE officials."
