Wir alle, liebe Reporterin.

1/12 How do animals build an internal map? In our new paper, we tracked thousands of mouse CA1 neurons over days/weeks as they learned a VR navigation task. @nspruston.bsky.social & co-1st author @johanwinn.bsky.social Video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yw_4... Paper: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Do we experience the flow of time? Answering this is trickier than it may seem. In my new paper, I explore altered states of consciousness—meditation, psychedelics—as contrast cases to argue for a positive answer. Open-access link: philpapers.org/rec/GADETA #PhilosophyOfMind #ConsciousnessStudies

There are two new volumes just out in the Elements in Philosophy of Mind series I edit for CUP. The first is *Irrationality* by @emas-b.bsky.social, and it's free to download till 24 February. Here's the link: www.cambridge.org/core/element...

The second new volume in the Elements in Philosophy of Mind series is *Bayesian Models of the Mind* by Michael Rescorla. Till 27 February you can download it free from this link: www.cambridge.org/core/element...

Dieses Statement sitzt. Angela #Merkel an Friedrich #Merz.

#PhiMiSci has launched a new volume for 2025! The first publication is "What is it like to be a tetrachromat?" by Michael Newall. He argues that tetrachromats not just see finer graduations of familiar colours, but novel colours that trichromats are unable to see or imagine.

New book "Explanation in Biology" with Cambridge University Press is out & open access! Covers (1) causal explanation & (2) non-causal/mathematical explanation in life sciences--bio, neuro, etc 🌿🧬🧠 Introduction to philosophical work on scientific explanation! www.cambridge.org/core/element...

The moral significance of #consciousness or #sentience in artificial systems is one of the topics we'll discuss at our workshop “Evaluating Artificial Consciousness”: eac-2025.sciencesconf.org 10-11 June 2025 at RUB Bochum

Two workshops on consciousness in June at Ruhr University Bochum! My workshop on artificial consciousness (co-organised with Albert Newen) will be followed by a workshop with Jonathan Birch on "The Edge of Sentience" (organised by Tobias Schlicht and his team): bsky.app/profile/tobi...

The University of Missouri’s Department of Philosophy is accepting applications to our five-year PhD program. Winning applicants will receive a teaching assistantship, including a stipend, tuition waiver, and health care. Please encourage philosophy majors who would thrive in our program. 1/6

As part of our special issue on dreaming and mind wandering, a new article has been published #OpenAccess on #PhiMiSci: "Minimal states of awareness across sleep and wakefulness: A multidimensional framework to guide scientific research" by Adriana Alcaraz-Sánchez:

Shaun Gallagher's new article „Molyneux and motor plasticity“ is now available on #PhiMiSci. In it, he argues that the key to answering Molyneux’s question involves properly understanding plastic changes not just in the visual areas of the brain, but also in areas involved in motor control.

A new article has been published #OpenAccess on the #PhiMiSci website: In „Representationalism and Molyneux's question", D. Weger argues that the usual representationalist’s answer to Molyneux’s question is insufficient and suggests an alternative, intermodal approach based on quality space theory:

In this new preprint @smfleming.bsky.social and I present a new theory of the functions and evolution of conscious vision. This is a big project: osf.io/preprints/ps.... We'd love to get your comments!

Two starter packs for Consciousness Science! (A) go.bsky.app/CgkfpXZ (B) go.bsky.app/T8z9NP4

I think it was missing to I created a Consciousness Science Starter Pack: go.bsky.app/T8z9NP4 I can still add ~90 people so if you want to jump in, let me know! And if you don't want to be there, let me know as well of course. The boundaries of consciousness research can be hard to determine!

For Science Magazine, I wrote about "The Metaphors of Artificial Intelligence". The way you conceptualize AI systems affects how you interact with them, do science on them, and create policy and apply laws to them. Hope you will check it out! www.science.org/doi/full/10....

Dear all, I am looking for a postdoc for an ERC-funded project on meditation and the predictive brain in my lab. More details can be found here: heleenslagter.com/positions Feel free to reach out with any questions! Please help spread the word!

Stephen Wolfram thinks we need philosophers working on big questions around #AI: “The question is what do you think about, and that’s a different kind of question, and it’s a question that’s found more in traditional #philosophy than it is in the traditional #STEM.” techcrunch.com/2024/08/25/s...

Why has no one cross posted this paper to #PhilSky ? On Bullshit is a 2005 book (originally a 1986 essay) by the American philosopher Harry G. Frankfurt which presents a theory of bullshit that defines the concept and analyzes the applications of bullshit in the context of communication.

I was surprised at first, because thermodynamically, the brain is incredibly efficient- it produces much less waste heat per computation than a computer. But if you’re talking chemicals, then sure.

The next article of our special issue on remembering and imagining is now available #OpenAccess on #PhiMiSci: „Imagining what you intend“ by Peter Langland-Hassan, in which he inquires if intentions always suffice to determine the object of one’s imaginings.
