If an RPG wants to dissuade me from going to the next area, it should have the guts to do it with overly-powerful enemies that I can nonetheless deke past if I'm very clever about it, NOT with a generic shrine next to a one-tile river and a dude going "but thou musteth go to ye ANNOYING CAVE first"
