Brilliant news 👏👏👏Sandeels, the basis of so many food chains, need to remain in the sea not be harvested out of existence to feed farmed fish & animals. A win for seabirds. A win for fish. And definitely a bonus for the sandeels themselves. Fabulous. @petedevery.bsky.social @stuartsw.bsky.social

Flood Zone 3 - highest risk areas for flooding - the EA says homes should only be built there in exceptional cases but, BBC File on Four reveals, between 2013 & 2022, 205,000 homes were built in FZ3. "A ticking time bomb of misery" says @jamie-woodward.bsky.social www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

I keep saying this... both operationally and in research, the situation is still much worse than most people seem to realize or want to accept.

🚨 BREAKING: The UK's sandeel ban will stay in place in a VICTORY for the ocean & science! 🌊🎉 🐟 #Sandeels are vital food for puffins, porpoises & cod. Although the EU won its challenge to the ban on paper, the court confirms it was backed by science & is VITAL to healthy seas. 1/2 ⏬

Scientists who study climate don't automatically attribute all changes to human activity. Rather, we carefully investigate every possible natural factor that could explain the planet's warming. Could these be the real culprits? The evidence is in--and the answer is NO. This thread explains! 🧵

I've been re-posting this for 2 days, but at the rate the UK has built homes in recent years . . .

Frustrating/ironic that this story was overshadowed by the nonsense spouted by Tony Blair about net zero earlier this week - one of his criticisms was that people don't feel like solutions to climate change are based on good policy... 1/🧵

Going in the right direction...

We are facing a methane crisis. We keep getting more and more good data quantifying the problem on a global scale and the sources of the emissions. And then.....nothing happens. There is no enforcement.

We're very impatient for the renewable energy to have saved us (me, too) But the change wasn't in last 10 years Last 10 years just preparation The change starts now — next 10 years going to be fast Yeh, not as soon as we needed for climate action on 1.5°C - but fast from now bsky.app/profile/prof...

UK Sandeel commercial fishing ban remains!✊ The EU challenged the ban, claiming the move was "discriminatory and disproportionate" but a European court has now dismissed the challenge, confirming the ban was "based on the best available science." 🎣 ❌ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Satellites do a great job of finding methane emissions but that doesn't result in enforcement. We wrote about this power plant in Florida a month ago. Here is the latest image (it has a different town name listed, its the same spot).

Fortune published my piece on the @e3g.bsky.social report showing 97% of execs support a transition to renewables. This maps onto the fact that we underestimate how much appetite there is for climate action globally, with 89% of people favouring stronger climate action. @coveringclimatenow.org

The Labour government will announce plans to see solar panels fitting on most new build houses from 2027. The plans will also see government funded loans and grants to support fitting panels on more existing homes. It is expected to increase new home costs by £3-4k but save up to £1k a year.
