It's certainly not about protecting voters 😕

1) The TBI graph shows IEA data for 'global energy supply' The label says that in 2023, two-thirds of new global energy supply was from fossil fuels This has come from 8EJ of supply *added* in 2022 being fossil fuels out of a 12EJ total = 67%

BUT in March 2025 the IEA updated the data Showing in 2024 this was just 50% (7EJ / 14EJ) This significantly changes the trend & previous years of data suggest that the % was higher in the past i.e. the trend is probably long term decline, not reflected by the TBI's report.

2) Also, the source data is primary energy Primary energy is a measure of how much energy is directly available in the source (e.g. coal, oil, wind) before it is converted into useful energy The key thing is that 2/3rds of fossil fuel primary energy is lost e.g. as heat.

And so only a third ends up being actually useful energy For renewables, this is much less; 90% of primary energy ends up as useful end-use energy So comparing primary energy in this way is not the whole story.

Missing updated data from the IEA is a pretty significant error. It means that longer term trends are missed, and the point made by the TBI may be misleading... And using primary energy, which has been debunked numerous times, is not the whole story: medium.com/@jan.rosenow...
