Chicago cat geezer. Tea fanatic. What the advertising industry dubs "GenX." Gray ace. Neurodivergent. Neither proud nor ashamed of that. Frequently it's hard. But I do my best.

I understand where both sides are coming from. When your neighborhood is swamped with teenagers acting out, harassing people, destroying property, etc., that's scary and infuriating. But teen curfews don't work, certainly not one where they get all of 30 minutes notice. That'll get the city sued.

As far as I know, anyone can celebrate whatever they want, whenever they want, for any reason whatsoever.

I'm not sure what freaks out these right-wingers more: the concept that black people should celebrate their heritage and their freedom, or the historical precedent of the federal government taking away "their property."

He sure loves Columbus Day, though.

I strongly suspect that right-wing evangelicals' love of Christ begins and ends with Revelation.

My guess is that she was exposed to empathy and didn't have her epipen with her.

It boggles my mind that a sitting US senator would carry enough cruelty in his soul to resort to taunting after a politician was murdered. Mike Lee has always been an asshole, but this behavior requires a special brand of nasty.

This would be the equivalent of taking out the pope. And I highly doubt even the Sunnis would react to the assassination of a Shia Muslim religious leader with anything other than horror and fury.

Not entirely inaccurate - most of those photos show women with obvious photo/AI "enhancements," assuming the entire photo isn't fake.

A huge chunk of those records weren't even disco records - just music by black performers.

To be fair, a black woman winning a country Grammy award has never happ--- oh, she's the fifth black woman to win a country Grammy because the Pointer Sisters took one home 51 years ago? Yet nobody whined for a "traditional country" Grammy then. Racist snowflakes.

Not to mention potentially our food supply, given that white folks would sooner drop dead than work in fields.

It was inevitable. All these fantasies about Musk returning to more liberal politics or losing all the federal contracts or even being deported were exactly that, fantasies.

And much of this will negatively affect red states. Same thing with ripping apart FEMA - the administration don't care who they hurt. They'll happily take your vote and punch you in the face.

Sly Stone and Brian Wilson headed out the door a couple days apart at the same age. It makes cosmic sense - they had a lot more in common than meets the eye.

They don't care if you did everything by the book, Mr./Ms. meat processor, or Mr./Ms. farmer. They don't care. They don't care if we end up with a food shortage. It doesn't matter to them.

Social Security was bound to be a target. Everything from the New Deal has been and will be a target for destruction. And since Democratic politicians are so impotent nowadays, it's up to us to hit back at them.

It's certainly plausible. Unlike many filmmakers of the time, who used white actors in blackface for black characters, Keaton hired black actors. Neighbors is but one example. Looking more closely at the scene in Seven Chances, I believe you're right.
comment in response to

Among the potential brides Keaton approached was a woman who looked to be in blackface. At least I assumed she was. I could be wrong.
comment in response to

Exactly. The General wasn't Keaton's only problematic work. He was in blackface in The Neighbors, and blackfaced characters show up in many of his films. I love Seven Chances and always will, but I'm very aware that I'm setting aside the scene with the actress in blackface when enjoying the film.

I still watch his films but am keenly aware that I made a choice to set aside his behavior for my own fandom. Same with Keaton. Same with Lillian Gish. 3/3

These people were human & prone to prejudice as everyone else. It must be discussed, and then we make choices. I love Chaplin movies and always will, but he was rotten to women and had a thing for teen girls. Young teen girls. 2/3

I remember being on a silent movie forum on FB many years back, and someone posted a photo of Colleen Moore in blackface. I was one of many who found it rude and racist and said so, which led to a serious brouhaha. 1/2

Implicit, yes. But I would note that, if a penis-owner happened to be juggling 20 other cocks at two o'clock in the morning inside a truck, they might well lose track of their own amist the darkness & tight space and thus need to add that cock to their juggling activity.
