They do have magnetic mesh fly screen things but he won't use them. In Los Angeles, when West Nile Virus came around, landlords were made to install screens into every window [which is good cause mine had fallen out].

There are mosquitos. Kent mosquito bites were worse than ones I've had from Delhi or Masai Mara [although without malaria]. There are also TONS OF FLIES in the country and I want to keep them out but my British husband doesn't get it. We have to use a net curtain.

They also don't have electric pencil sharpeners and even the mounted rotary ones with handles we had in school are considered high tech. They do have free healthcare which is a Very Good Thing even though it's struggling as successive govts try to starve/privatise it.

I've been here since 2009 and haven't figured that out yet. "We don't need them" people say. But there are mosquitoes. And it will get worse with global warming. www.gov.uk/government/n...

Not just libraries. Most UK hospitals don't have a/c and the wards are absolutely roasting in the summer. All staff in mandatory heavy polyester uniforms. Patients sweating. Windows open and they don't have window screens here either.

My husband says that every year. His name is Mark. Hmmm. Are you my husband?

You get awarded PIP for things like needing help to bathe, to prepare a meal, to mobilise, to take your medications. How is removing funding for that going to help anyone at all?
Tax the rich. Don't penalise the already struggling.

The government says it is generously providing 3 months of transition payment but it does not explain how a person with a disability can stop being disabled in 3 months. And remember PIP HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH JOBS. It is daily living. Please write your MP of any party and tell them no changes!

Air con isn't bad; heat stroke is bad.

Born in So Cal and always told if I swam in November, I'd die of hypothermia. Now I live in England and swim outside year round without a wetsuit. Could never have a swim party as a kid with a Nov birthday. For my 50th, we swam at Bournemouth, air temp 2C.

In 1986 I got a scholarship to UCLA and I'm pretty certain it's because I began my essay with a Reggie Jackson quote.

I moved to England from LA. We are currently experiencing a heatwave where temps get to mid/high 80s and I'm dying. I hate the heat. I also hate when British people say "You're from LA; you must like this." I CHOSE to move. NB It does feel hotter in the 80s here. [No A/C or cross ventilation]

The only [vaguely] feminine shoes I can wear without pain are Keen Presidio Mary Janes and first they stopped making them in Europe [I'm in UK] and now in USA. I don't understand why. Just ordered some from ebay US but uglier than I wanted. Had to ship to sis in US and will pick up some day.

I know I'm fortunate to live in the country but my sheets smell so good off the line with unscented detergent. [As long as I time it around slurry spreading which it bad for environment anyway.]

So this is good, right? Wouldn't that be a great solution for a political party to take up/put into practice? Make it less affordable for non-doms to own property as a way of getting more UK residents into affordable housing. If only govt weren't in it for the rich.

It's not a distraction to trans kids and to their families, nor to trans adults and the people who support them who wonder when they will be next. Shame on you.

The City of the Dead is nice. My friend took his wife there for their first date. When I was in Cairo, an Egyptian I met at the souk invited me there and we sat around a tomb as his parents prayed and they plied me with oranges and mint tea. Some people don't know how to interact with others.

The whole series is great although the cast of characters changes dramatically. I also missed it as a child. I read a children's book reminiscent of it recently and it really highlighted the decrease in literacy and the way publishers expect authors to pander to kids.
