Whenever someone's misdeeds are exposed, you get people who are convinced they can plainly see the evil essence in the perpetrator's features, pointing to "dead, soulless eyes" and such. Do you trust your fickle perception that much?

As I much less eloquently often put it: Good governance is mostly very boring.

Reposting this again bc like — I want to be able to respond in some productive way to every awful thing I see, but we are literally not built for that. So I picked an org in my lane and I’m offering up my skills. Spent an hour today working through the first piece of a new plan. And it felt good.

Just going to continue to uplift ways that people can take action and block people in my mentions who bust in like the Koolaid person to say that x, y, z 'won't work.' I want to hear what YOU are doing. If you want to share that, I'm here for it. Everything else is just noise.

This is the correct response to all popular music, beginning the day you turn forty. I too hope the young people had, and will continue to have fun.

This happened to me in Trump 1.0 when I called in and the dude said, “wow lots of calls about this issue today!” and I asked how many is a lot and he said “Seventeen!” Motivates me to pick up the phone every time.

Yes. “People are doing things. You will meet them when YOU start doing things.” Lots of information and resources in this one. open.substack.com/pub/sherrily...

Vaccines are good. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. Gender affirming care is good. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. "But big pharma!" misses the forest for the trees. The problem with big pharma isn't the medicines. Medicines and vaccines are good! It's the price they charge for them.

Look it is not your business where anyone was born or how they came to the US. Your business with other people is whether they have food, housing, and healthcare. Anything else, you don't ask and you can't tell.

Simple message that should be reiterated everywhere daily [if there was an opposition party]: 45/47 is a rich crook. He's President to enrich his billionaire rich friends by stealing from you.

there is a lot to feel shitty about today, but i'm holding onto the fact that my grantwriting mentorship cohort includes folks whose orgs are serving trans and Jewish and Latino communities, three populations who just got massively fucked over yesterday, and this gives me a material way to help them

Porn & Sex Work being used as scapegoats to strip Americans of their civil liberties.

This is a great reminder from day one of how they work; three or four times a day, every day, they will do something and then insist they didn’t do it and force everyone to burn out arguing that it is what it is. The sole purpose is to exhaust you and it will absolutely work if you let it.

No particular reason:

So I got HEAPS AND HEAPS (like truly a weird amount) of antisemitic abuse when I posted this on Twitter but I think it might be more normal here: ICE raids depend on stealth. Be disruptive if you spot them out in public in a little team. Shout, distract, etc. Do what you can.

This feels like a great day to remind folks that when you write accurate descriptive alt text, if someone has a term -- like a fascist's name, maybe -- muted, Bluesky picks it up and they will not have to see that person's face on their feed.

All right, y'all, something URGENT. It's going to be 11 degrees below zero here tonight; wind chills worse than -20. People die in these temps. Our local shelter is opening to EVERYONE, including pets. A lot of folks will need transportation to get there.

Did your child lose their book collection in the Los Angeles fires? Are you a teacher at a school that lost its library or your classroom library? Whether you need one book or a whole library, we can replace your books. 📚 Everyone else, please boost this post so we can connect with those in need. 🙏

You’ll probably see this screenshot floating around a lot but it really was wonderful to see Lynch put a scene in Twin Peaks: The Return where he has his character literally stare at the camera and say that you should either support trans people or die. I needed to hear that in 2017

sounds like a new year's plan to me!

I was homeschooled between 11-16 due to chronic illness. My mother was my main tutor and she didn't finish secondary school herself. I did, however, make friends with a bunch of furries on the internet, who ended up teaching me grammar. This is the modern day equivalent of being raised by wolves.

on the internet when interacting with random strangers it is important to ask yourself “would i say this to a stranger at a bar under the same circumstances?” and if the answer is no log off and sit by yourself for a while thinking about how people on the internet are actual people
