I think I ran out of mental space and time for new music in 1979. So I've pretty much missed rap. That is not an insult. I just only have so much time for music. I'm focused on other things personally. I'm sure he is better than ABBA.

Ha it can be tough because rap in general is the most verbal genre of music (popular or otherwise!) that's ever existed! They invented whole-ass websites just to transcribe and annotate the songs for people because it's IMPOSSIBLE to get it all in real-time.

I’m old and white and I love Kendrick conceptually but don’t get a lot of it (and can’t hear the lyrics fast enough to process them— a ME problem, not a rap problem) and you know what, it’s fine. Not everything is for me or about me. The visuals were fire and his energy and performance were great.

Agreed entirely. I have audio processing issues, so ANY quick speech or lyrics will be hard for be to catch. But what I could catch from the subtitles were awesome and the show itself was stylish and punchy. I sought out the halftime show itself because I'm not a football person.

I'm 61 and still going to indie-type shows. Love Kendrick Lamar. Solidarity with older people who still pay attention to music, it's one of the joys of my life. I don't like most Billboard chart pop, but I, too, hope the young people have fun with it.
