Got a bit suspicious about one of the hostas which had fewer noses than expected and loose soil. Was astonished to see vine weevil grubs, in huge numbers! Never had them attack a hosta before - but fished out the lot, and made a grubby Smörgåsbord for the garden birds. And it prompted me to 1/

Might've videoed the two bumble nests I've found so far and then gone through the footage to log all the arrivals and exits. And made a little montage to see who was coming and going. Maybe. #beeliever #inverts 🐙 🐝

Much as I love the Spring flowers, I'm also thinking ahead to late-Summer dining for our insect friends, and unearthing great bundles of Dahlia tubers after growing them from tiny slips of papery seeds last Summer seems pretty miraculous. Here I am, scarcely containing my excitement. 😊

The garden is breathing a petrichor sigh of relief. Greens greener for the clouds, grey as collared doves behind them, flowers, bark, new-bursting buds, rinsed clean of six weeks' gasping dust. Everything brightens, stretches, extends, each leaflet reaching for useful rain.

Right, well I know where I'd like to move to... Pettorano sul Gizio becomes a bear-safe town, and begins to reverse its own population decline. Also - looks like paradise. 😍💚🐻#GoodGreenNews
