Sadly the @baltimoresun.bsky.social is now owned by the lying right-wing nut job David D. Smith, the executive chairman of Sinclair Broadcast Group. I only read the @thebaltimorebanner.com now, which is good old fact-based real news reporting not right wing lies and propaganda.

Thank you for posting this. Going to check out his Facebook post and set the record straight!! I’m from Bend, Oregon, which is the location of the flyer he’s referring to. This is definitely misrepresentation! Here’s the crowd from “Drake Park”. I can tell you, NO ONE WAS PAID!!

It's important to note that this is not the first time that American media has been saturated with far right propaganda. Here's a thread about the vibrant world of right wing media in the 1960s. FB right wingers are serving the same audience that AM radio once did. bsky.app/profile/seth...

In some ways social media has nationalized our politics and culture...but the Rick Dancer and Brandi Kruse examples (and I imagine there are equivalents in many other states as well) are examples of how social media is creating localized communities of rageful reactionaries focused on local stories.

The "local TV reporter to right wing wingnut social media phenom pipeline" is a familiar dynamic, with Kari Lake being the most prominent example. What's notable is how this dynamic is a) so local (Rick Dancer is a 100% Oregon phenomenon) and b) drafts off the trust people once had in media.

As much of the country becomes a news/information desert, weird toxic and locally-specific weeds like the Rick Dancer (OR) and Brandi Kruse (WA) accounts have blossomed. They use their influence to promote some truly absurd stuff...like this GOP candidate Rick platformed. bsky.app/profile/seth...

Brandi Kruse is the Washington state version of Oregon's Rick Dancer. She's a former local TV news host turned stoker of reactionary rage (posing as a common sense moderate). Like Rick, the comments on her posts, most of which are demonstrably false, are filled with rageful white people.

Rick posts fake stories about how the No Kings protesters were all being paid. He also posts stories like this implying that the MN MAGA preacher assassin was ackshually a radical Democrat angry that Melissa Hortman had voted for a bill denying health care to undocumented people. Note the engagement

Rick is one of several former local TV news anchors who've rebranded as "common sense, moderate" voices but who are actually far right fabulists posting emotionally-activating, reactionary content that appeals to white boomers who think "the world has gone crazy." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Da...

Anyway, if people have examples of other people who've come out of the "former TV news reporter to wingnut social media influencer pipeline," let me know by responding to this skeet. Hopefully some media reporter would be interested in drawing attention to this bad dynamic in a more systematic way.

And don't forget that 15 years after the first American radio broadcast in 1920...the radio figure with probably the largest audience in the nation was a fascist preacher named Father Charles Coughlin. encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/a...

It's so weird that the violence that ensued on #NoKings Day was committed by right-wingers. It’s as if they were groomed by their Dear Leader.

This has got to be the biggest propaganda campaign in US history.

Can they bring FOTUS and his entire MAGA crew in as accessories to the crime?

This is a Great Piece to keep posting. Shows how $45+ million was wasted.

The anti-American, anti-Democracy MAGA/GOP/right-wing has weaponized the right to “free speech” to defend their propaganda and lies. How do we escape this? As always, I blame Reagan (for so most things), but getting rid of the “Fairness Doctrine” was a big one to cause this shit show we’re in now.

We no longer live in a shared reality. This is a weaponized unreality machine that ensures that there is no shared reality for which to build political opposition on. Facts and the truth no longer matter, only what serves the interests of the authoritarian leader.

The Koch brothers are up there with the worst of the worst radical right-wing anti-American, anti-Democratic, anti-Constitution traitors.
comment in response to post
Good start would be to break up the Koch conglomerate, outing obscene political influence, next, declare the Koch Brothers as domestic enemies, anyone engaging in business will be heavily scrutinized. Zealots should be treated as such and given no power in Government

Yes, but no one who works for FOTUS is a real Christian — they’re all just pretenders who actually worship the devil I think 😀!

@wsj.com that's BS — over 11+ million people came out to protest the anti-American traitor Trump and his MAGA goons. This is political power and many Democratic representatives were there and all in.

@atrupar.com while I appreciate your sharing the absurdity that the MAGA and Trump idiots say on Fox “News” and other propaganda platforms, because believe me I don’t want to watch that nonsense and lies, I do think you need to contextualize a little, otherwise you’re just repeating MAGA lies

It’s amazing that Eric Trump is even more of a corrupt scumbug, felon, and loser than his father — how is that possible?
