Back… 10 years ago now when I worked at EA, the leadership of DICE LA made a big study showing that systemic crunch led to worst games through worst productivity overall and more bugs in the software. More focused work being the answer if you need a burst in production, not more time spent at work.

Due to the general apocalyptic mood on any social media website, I've realized that I was holding back on posting positive things, feeling it would be tone-deaf. Still, I've had a particularly great time with games these past few months, so here goes a little appreciation thread of recent releases:

Allow me to provide a break from the doomscrolling with news of the utmost importance: Eurovision is months away and Sweden already has the strongest candidates: Finns singing about sauna. Because of course they would. You can now resume your usual activities. www.youtube.com/watch?v=28__...

The what now ? Are we setting up data centers on the Moon ? Why ? How ?

Finished "The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry" by Gabrielle Zevin. A book about books, and love, and the love of books. It was incredibly moving. Read it.

Finished reading "Doom Guy" by @johnromero.bsky.social. Felt like a very deep dive into how games were made back in the 80's and 90's for the most part, showing that even though game dev has changed a lot since then... much is also the same to this day.

Hello @bsky.app, here's to looking into more #bluesky and beyond... 😉

Very much enjoying Indiana Jones and The Great Circle. Y’all should play it. As a matter of fact, I’m going back to it right away. Very well done to our almost-neighbors at MachineGames !

A very good read on the uniformisation of gaming history and culture in the media discourse.

If you haven't already read it, here's a nice and enlightening read on the early days of @valvesoftware.com and the making of the original Half-Life medium.com/@monicah428/...

How do you know when a game you're working on is good ? Games are at the crossroads of art and tech, and assessing when a game is truly "good" or "fun" can be very complex. On that topic, our producer shared this article which is worthy of re-sharing here www.pushtotalk.gg/p/how-do-you...

God Jul everyone as we say in Sweden. Eat, Game, Read, Love and Be Merry !

Here is a great and inspiring read to feed your end-of-year reflections and new year resolutions !

I feel like I’ve been talking about the importance of the first hour in any game for as long as I’ve worked in this industry, and I’m not the only one ! Have a listen to this very nice podcast with @jenmacl.bsky.social znd @iocat.bsky.social gamemakersnotebook.libsyn.com/industry-vet...

Great wealth of tips and information for all of you who are, like me, new to the Butterfly place.

Game devs, post your first shipped game and your latest shipped game.

Congratulations to our friends at Hazelight, Split Fiction looks awesome !

Wow. Ok then. Well done CDPR, can’t wait !

Nice initiative worth relaying from @valvesoftware.com & Midgard who are running a promotion on games from studio who track their carbon emissions and disclose it to the public, it's called the Zero Carbon Quest and it's over here: store.steampowered.com/curator/4502...

Finished « Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow » by Gabrielle Zevin, a novel about people and relationships on a backdrop of game development. The dev process is quite (very) romanticized, but it was still a good read. I wish MMO’s were as easy to build in reality as they are in the book… Read it!

Congrats to all our friends at @shirogames.com on the announcement of SpaceCraft, looking really good !

A really good read on the upcoming hardware development regarding handheld gaming.
