I can’t believe this has to be said, but: You cannot tell the story of Jackie Robinson—as a ballplayer, serviceman, or human—without discussing our country’s history of racism. From Around the Horn:

something republicans understand is that "look at how rich and happy everyone is in this place our 'side' runs" is a powerful political message which is why they are constantly sabotaging and stealing money from new york and california

The refusal of state legislators to meet the moment is stunning. You have a government, use it to fill the voids.

This is the way. Why don’t we have an alliance of Western States to create places at our universities?

Some abundance-oriented intellectuals would disagree, but my read on the abundance school’s greater significance is as an attempt to recover elements of the New Deal’s political economy and move past the New Left/degrowther instincts that still have too much influence over contemporary liberalism.

Timely

It will never cease to amaze me how many people bitterly resist one of the most obvious and important facts of our time: that when there is a shortage of housing, everything becomes more expensive and destabilized. Building more housing is one of the most important priorities we face as a country.

Housing really is a ‘decide if you want to win’ issue for the Democratic Party.

ADU legalization has facilitated 30,000 new permitted homes in Los Angeles—homes that would have been illegal to build before YIMBYs got involved in 2017. ADUs comprised 40% of the homes built in Los Angeles last year. Is that "a little"?

We're all going to be unbelievably fucked if blue states don't start immediately rolling back restrictions on new housing to create a construction boom and build millions of new multifamily homes as soon as possible

I feel like you can support Trump’s wicked immigration policy, OR celebrate St Paddy’s day, but you can’t do both.

The scale of infill density in Charlotte’s South End and NoDa neighborhoods is something that should be getting national attention from the YIMBY movement IMO.

Normalize doing more at the state level: washingtonstatestandard.com/briefs/washi...

I cannot get over how amazing this Minnesota state bill is Just amazing how they went point by point right at the planning profession’s little petty rules Love to see it

This is what many cities in the U.S. looked like before the EPA. Why the heck would anyone celebrate deregulating it?

JD Vance talking about housing as a supply issue while part of the Tariffs and Construction Worker Deportations admin is basically the whole NatCon shtick writ large: you accurately diagnose the problem, talk eloquently about it’s impacts, then enthusiastically commit yourself to being part of it.

This is America

Abundance!

Musk and Trump could not possibly be sending a clearer signal that the Tesla protests are working than this pathetic stunt today.

This was always Soros secret plan to make red America buy electric cars

This chart seems to suggest that something is going wrong in the United States, specifically. (www.ft.com/content/7568... )

We have to fix this, California.

San Francisco’s population of people in their 20s is declining. It’s happening in other cities too. We must make it easier & faster to build many, many new homes. I’m pursuing aggressive legislation this year to continue to push for more homes. We have to keep fighting for our future.

My first essay for @rooseveltinstitute.org is up. It's about the future of abundance liberalism under the second Trump administration. www.firesidestacks.com/p/where-abun...

oh so *now* the biden economy was "firing on all cylinders" huh? i kinda don't recall that being the tenor of economic news coverage before the election

Exactly this.

If you're 60, 69.1% of all job growth since your birth occurred under Democratic administrations. If you're 45, that number is 74.7%. If you're under 30, the number is 100%.

“The requirement for ‘dual-loaded corridors’ and double stairwells, which was born out of early 20th century planning concerns, has since become a hindrance to creating larger units with greater natural light and ventilation and buildings with enhanced green space.” Behold LA’s single-stair motion!

it was a day of being 'on' and talking about my book. i was on new day northwest this AM. had an interview in the afternoon. then got to do my first public book talk at our favorite book store - elliott bay book co. loads of great questions, too. it was fun!

Key takeaway from DOGE: There’s less government fraud/waste than expected.
