Yesterday, a judge just ruled that our lawsuit to protect the Mojave desert tortoise from reckless solar development and illegal cattle grazing can proceed. Despite attempts by the fed'l gov & Clark Co. to dismiss our case, the court agreed that our arguments are valid and deserve a hearing.

The wording of the order suggests that the aim is not just to cut through some of the red tape hindering proposed projects, but to incite the industry to mine areas that it may not have been considering previously.

Do you have plans this afternoon/evening? We're hosting a webinar on wolves and livestock that is pretty timely. Program starts at 5 PM MST! www.paperlesspost.com/go/ZwG82pDfq...

Public Domain obtained the names of some 40 political appointees that the new administration has either placed or proposed to place in Interior department roles.

>> A voice for ranchers said cattlemen were disappointed in the ruling. Jim Magagna raised the prospect of Wyoming still imposing “conditions” on corner crossing to ensure all uses of public land are “compatible.” <<

It’s Lobos Week! Can your spot the difference between a Mexican Gray wolf and a Coyote? Mexican gray wolves, or lobos, are critically endangered, with only a few hundred left in the wild. As a fed'l protected species under the ESA, it is illegal to kill, harm, or harass them. Who's on the L & R?

Today at 10AM MST there will be a live-streamed funeral mass for Congressman Raúl Grijalva. Tune in: standwithraul.com

"The illegal killing of this breeding male wolf is devastating to the overall recovery of the species in OR and to his family, the Metolius pack, who would be counting on him to help feed pups this spring. This senseless killing is inexcusable & has no place in civil society." -Adam Bronstein of WWP

At this hearing, Lauren Boebert asserting that the wolf population is “good” at 6,000-8,000 to Dr. Peter Kareiva—an ecologist with decades of experience and over 200 scientific papers under his belt—is peak Dunning-Kruger in action.

"Public lands ranchers should not be compensated with public dollars for their losses. Like any viable enterprise, it should just be the cost of doing business," writes WWP Oregon Director, Adam Bronstein.

Today at 10:15 am EST, House Republicans are putting a target on the back of America’s wildlife. They’re pushing two bills that would gut the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and strip gray wolves of crucial federal protections. Watch the hearing live: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycUg...

"CWD is a deathly serious public and wildlife health issue." - epidemiologist Michael Osterholm

The wolf, an adult breeding male of the Metolius pack, was found dead near Sisters, Oregon. Anyone with information about this case should call the U.S. FWS at (503) 682-6131, or the Oregon State Police Dispatch at (800) 452-7888, *677 or [email protected]. www.fws.gov/press-releas...

Nesvik would be a danger to the 1,600 endangered species that FWS oversees the protection of.

"They don't want to fix anything, least of all the housing crisis. They just want to be marginally richer and for us to not have the resource that nearly every American loves. Don't believe their lies and fight for our public land."

This case has huge implications for millions of acres of public lands across the West, where private entities have long used legal threats, fences, and intimidation to keep the public out. The court made it clear: private interests cannot enclose public lands and deny access to the American people.

The Senate is considering Brian Nesvik for Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and we must act to stop his confirmation. Take action today.

The discovery of CWD on feedgrounds in 2025 has been anticipated as the disease has continued to spread across the state. Shut them down.

“Influencers” across social media seem to have a newfound interest in the Seashore, characterized by identical, false soundbites. It's not surprising since ranching in Point Reyes has always been bolstered by persistent myths & a veneer of tradition obscuring impacts & subsidies from the taxpayer."

We will miss Rep. Raúl Grijalva, a true champion for wildlife & wild places. His leadership on conservation, Indigenous sovereignty, endangered species, & public lands was unwavering. He fought grazing abuses, championed permit buyouts, & always sought justice. His humor & leadership will be missed.

“This is just the beginning of an entirely preventable crisis, and it’s unfolding exactly as scientists have predicted for decades,” said Dagny Signorelli, Wyoming Director of Western Watersheds Project.

THIS JUST IN: Federal Court Judge William H. Alsup has just ordered the reinstatement of terminated employees at at the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, Defense, Energy, Interior and Treasury. WWP is proud to stand with workers. MORE TO COME!

Today WWP is in fed'l court once again to repeal Trump's mass-firing of the workers who manage western public lands and wildlife. We're working toward a decisive ruling that dismantles this opening gambit to sabotage fed'l agencies, & make it easier for the profiteers to exploit & destroy the West.

One of the primary reasons why the black footed ferret is endangered the first place is because their main food source (Prairie dogs) have been exterminated in large numbers because of ranchers and agriculture. wyofile.com/cloning-of-e...

One of our staff members was in the Sacramento International Airport and saw the banner on the left. So we fixed it.

286 is great. It’s more than we’ve ever had before, but it’s not very many when you figure its the entire wild population of a species. With threats such as conflict with livestock due to a reduction in prey the lobo population is still at risk.

Cheatgrass spreads where livestock grazing wipes out native plants, fueling fire and invasion. WWP’s meta-analysis proves grazing makes it worse, yet agencies push cows as the “solution.” Shifting baselines make people forget what’s been lost. This isn’t natural—it’s policy-driven destruction.

This is not an industry that “feeds America.” This is an industry that feeds off America—off taxpayer subsidies, off gutted environmental regulations, off the destruction of public lands. Check out the full piece on our brand new substack. 💘 substack.com/@westernwate...

There will be a hearing tomorrow on this terrible piece of legislation so we need you to act TODAY!

Karen Budd-Falen has built her career serving those who exploit public lands for private gain. She’s not a public servant—she’s an industry shill. As yet another unelected bureaucrat in this administration, her appointment is a direct threat to the future of our wild landscapes.

“[A]gencies and hunters often justify management approaches by claiming that they follow the ‘North American Model of Wildlife Conservation,’ which has a central tenet that ‘Science is the proper tool to discharge policy. This new research casts doubt on the extent to which this tenet is followed.”

The wild Mexican gray wolf population has ticked up again, with at least 286 wolves now roaming Arizona and New Mexico. It’s a hard-won success, but it’s not the full picture. Their genetic crisis is deepening, and without a real commitment to recovery, we’re still far from securing their future.

MT RESIDENT ONLY: Two extreme wolf-killing bills are headed to the Senate floor and we only have ~1 day to act. Please take immediate action and tell your friends.

Three of the four witnesses at the House NR oversight hearing on the ESA were livestock operators who went to lengths to discuss the hardships imposed by restoring native wildlife but neglected to discuss the massive government subsidies supporting their industry’s use of public lands.

Karen Budd-Falen is a rancher and a long-time advocate for privatizing public lands, an opponent of federal environmental protections, a legal architect of the anti-public lands movement, and a supporter of ant-government extremist. cowboystatedaily.com/2025/03/03/c...
