Good piece. There is also tension between the focus on delivering against Government missions/objectives and the role of the state/civil service doing the boring stuff well. It's when the latter fails that a Government priority is needed to address it. If the talent is only directed to the former..

Thanks Peter, I was one of those responding on here and appreciate you listening to others and taking decision you have. This is a difficult area, deeply emotive for many of us. As you say, takeaway isn't to research/write less on it, quite the opposite, so pleased that's your other reflection.

2/ The context is though, many of us live day in day out, including with gaslighting by authorities and influential voices, so when we see these articles, they add to the pile, feel targeted/intentional at worst and naive/missed opportunities at best. And we wish we could enjoy the sunny Sunday.

1/ I tried to be measured and give details in why I found it frustrating in my previous response. I don't think anyone here claiming system isn't broken, although all will have own angles.

3/ The lack of inquisitiveness and interest, across board and inc government, is startling - if this is deemed too much, why is it happening, what does life look like for these kids.. obsession with hitting attendance targets entirely misses the hard work of understanding our society.

2/ And as you know, £40m a drop in ocean re state spend - story here, if there is one, is how little spent on roads. There are plenty of lines of government/state spend for £40m that could be used as examples here, so not sure why this one in particular is chosen. Feels very Telegraph.

1/ inevitably a far more complex story here re SEND that new gov policy does nothing to ameliorate. Often the schools are terrible fit, home-based would be better, and we do nothing to address societal environment in which has created crisis. And actually many bid for transport without getting it.
