This is important

Exactly

Good point. The FBI selection process right now is highly bureaucratized, to ensure vetting and fairness. But that is internal policy. I can’t see anything that would stop scrapping that and hiring any rando, including 1/6 convicts and giving them special arrest powers. What could go wrong

Most people don’t realize that the FBI does not have a legislative charter. It is a creation of the Justice Dept and operates under rules promulgated by the Attorney General (the AG Guidelines). Those guidelines — which seek to protect civil liberties and baseless investigations— can be rescinded.

I am not going to stop calling for an FBI background check of Tulsi Gabbard and neither should you.

This kind of thing works, this kind of thing is what can prevent us from sliding into an autocracy

Those saying Joe Biden’s pardon of his son gives “permission” to Trump to issue wild pardons forget that Trump never asks or needs permission to do anything wild.

This! A big part of what is going on right now is an effort to get you to give up. The most meaningful step you can take right now—the first one towards preserving our freedom—is to refuse to do it. Don't give up.

funny how all the “Bluesky is an echo chamber” opeds sound exactly the same

What radicalized you? Comrade, I was told "Sharing is caring" as a child.

Many of us are echoing @timothysnyder.bsky.social's lesson in On Tyranny, "Do not obey in advance.” A no less vital admonition that deserves attn: STAND OUT “...without that unease, there is no freedom. The moment you set an example, the spell of the status quo is broken, and others will follow."

What made my skin burn most wasn’t that over 75 million people voted for Donald Trump. It was that this election didn’t seem to measurably change anything for the boys around me, whether their parents supported Mr. Trump or not. www.nytimes.com/2024/11/16/o...

So, like, is this a good time to bring up those other rules? Like the rule of law rules?

I was cleaning out my phone and came across this. Seems like a good reminder 🖤

Billionaire grifters are about to dismantle your government. So instead of your tax dollars going to your Medicare or your Medicaid or your affordable care act or to veterans benefits or your social security - it will go to THEM in the form of tax cuts for the wealthy.

What’s next? Don Jr being tapped to run the DEA?

I don't know who needs to hear this, everyone I think, but if you send a PDF to your kindle and put 'convert' as the subject it will change it to epub format for you, you're welcome (I posted this on the other place and was surprised by how many people it helped so thought I'd do it here too.)

Update: His health guy doesn't believe in medical science. His law guy is a sex trafficker. His intelligence gal is a Russian asset. You're all caught up.

We know this because we lived this with Trump for the last eight years. Keeping focus is difficult. We're going to need to get better at this.

Looking forward to learning how appointing an accused child-sex-trafficker as AG and a suspected Russian asset as DNI will lower the price of eggs

serious question: what exactly given the last 8yrs makes a contingent of political wonks believe checks & balances will save us? I can’t think of a single instance showing the branches have any ability, let alone any desire, to wield their power & not abdicate it w/simpering GRATITUDE for the opp

Whether it's Tim Walz expanding his state's school lunch program or Matt Gaetz giving cocaine and Ecstasy to underage sex workers, both sides have taken controversial approaches to feeding children.

⬇️ This is how Russian active measures operate (build up a trusting base, then slowly feed them your preferred info)…no reason not to reverse-engineer it right back with the truth

I missed the hi post… so HI! I’m a child full dog lady. I love information (even when it makes me ragey), reading, tackling “how hard could it be?” things I see on the interwebs, and standing by the people I care for and up for what I believe. Also, I will rate any dog 14/10.
