Oof. I hadn’t realized this so clearly before.

Who’s the person in this gif? What’s it from (if you know)?
comment in response to post
America is full of yeoman reactionaries who posture about rugged individualism but what they really want is to be plantation owners.
comment in response to post
Interesting! Thank you, I might check it out.

Huh. It seems Star Wars might be weirder than I was really giving it credit for? I guess I’d never really considered what Clone War meant.
comment in response to post
Holy what?!? (I’ve never seen Star Wars)

I do sometimes wish that English were a regularer language. (Even “regularer” is already capriciouser than spell check is comfortable with, although it’s fine with “capriciouser”).

There’s a bsky setting you might find helpful to make sure you remember to do alt text when you post an image: Settings → Accessibility → Require alt text before posting

I get what you’re saying, but the money is the least of it. (Sorry to be nitpicky/pedantic)
comment in response to post
Wow. English is my first language, and I just now learned from this comment that the rule is based on number of syllables. But it checks out. Is there a reason for that rule? Because if not, I might start flagrantly violating it.

(And I don’t see an easy way to do otherwise, but I’d be open to ideas.)

I think under most “clone” worldbuilding, either they do start with your memories or that question is kind of hand-waved away.
comment in response to post
I think it could be either. Like, would the second one boil down to be essentially the same as the first one if you assume that the clone’s (simulated or accelerated) development has the same experiences and exposures/environment that yours was in your actual original life? If not, what are they?
comment in response to post
No; only the experiences you’ve had up until the “cloning” event are factored in (and not necessarily all of those). Eg if you’re in the habit of dying your hair, your “clone” starts with dyed hair. But if you subsequently dye your roots, it will not change the clone’s hair.
comment in response to post
Not necessarily? In these scenarios, the “clone” share many non-genetic similarities with the original, like speaking accent. It seems perfectly reasonable to expect that your “clone” would appear to have had a transition relatively similar to your own.

It’s always easier to do chores at someone else’s place! Of course I’ll wash dishes (fold laundry, etc) for someone else! Especially if they’re around.
comment in response to post
Huh. TIL. Thanks!

wtf? A cloth towel device in a public restroom? Was such a thing ever common? (If so, when?)
comment in response to post
So what did you say to him or do in that situation?

*Whoops, no space in my signal name, just ExpressLee.01

Getting away was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but I found that I was more capable than I ever thought. I believe that you are, too. Feel free to DM (or I’m Express Lee.01 on Signal) for any reason. I support whatever steps you need to take be stay safe and/or get out. 2/2
comment in response to post
You’re absolutely welcome. I’ve had somewhat similar experiences. It was also health insurance that kept me in that situation, and I felt so trapped that I couldn’t even imagine what I could do to escape. 1/2

That’s your pattern recognition working accurately! And it’s you using a reasonable mechanism to handle the possibility of having misjudged, and to balance the emotional vertigo that abuse causes. You have made good decisions and behaved appropriately. That just seems important to say. 2/2
comment in response to post
It can be so scary to leave these situations. I relate strongly to the sense of self-distrust you described, wondering if your pattern recognition is broken. I want to point out that you correctly identified yelling-about-closed-the-door-to-pee as a Bad Thing, & checked that vibe w/ other ppl. 1/2

This is a terrible way for her to treat you, and you don’t deserve it. At all. No matter what. I’m really sorry. (Sorry if I’m getting too personal, as someone who doesn’t really know you.)

Obviously, I’m kinda contributing to the restart of the Sweden discourse. 😆 I’m descended from Swedes, and I’m a bit of a shitposter.

Do you think that their actions will be inconsistent with the stated belief that it’s their job to stop illegal ideas? Let them correct it if they didn’t mean what they said. Why would you give them any benefit of the doubt here? Do you think there’s any reasonable doubt that they are fascists?
comment in response to post
Oh no, please don’t restart the Sweden discourse.

Not even a matter of proof, just definition. I think the most mathematically reasonable definition would be reduction by 1/6, since that’s analogous to decimation being reduction by 1/10. Only loosely mathematically relevant, but I think you’d want to know: math has something called “sexy primes.”

Also, that’s virtually always the case with a huge change very fast! It is indicative of volatility, not improvement. High volatility is not a good thing in the markets. And this is not secret arcane theory kept beyond the reach of economics reporters. bsky.app/profile/stat...

Yep! Deeply dishonest of them to report this increase as a good development. It is a very partial, almost certainly very temporary, bounce back from a historically huge loss. bsky.app/profile/weak...
