Hearing the distinctive call of a buzzard (Buteo buteo) from the living room to discover four of them soaring the skies and playing right outside the back garden, appears their mating season has begun! 🤗 🦅 #BirdingScotland #Birds

Super cool animations, I could watch them all day! #birds

Absolutely stunning artwork! That wee face is just adorable! 🥰

Sanderling (Calidris alba) in winter plumage. Could watch these little cuties scurrying back and forth the shoreline all day long! 🥰 #SuperSeabirdSunday #Birds #ScottishWildlife #UKWildlife #WildlifePhotography 🌿 📷 🪶🐦

As I stopped and watched this ladybird for a while, I kept wondering why it didn’t just fly up the trunk. Guess it was determined to climb its own little mountain! 🐞 “There’s never an easy route to the things that matter” ~ Charles de Lint ~ #UKWildlife #ScottishWildlife #WildlifePhotography 📷 🌿

Recent suggestions that economic growth can only be attained at the expense of nature are wrong and dangerous. A healthy natural environment is key to a thriving economy. Our blog highlights steps the Scottish Government must take to benefit Scotland's wildlife and people. https://buff.ly/3Er2vIs

Thank you @britishecolsoc.bsky.social for explaining so eloquently how far off the mark “Britain's first green chancellor Chancellor" #RachelReeves is with her recent comments about bats and newts. Read full thread below...

Despite its name, the Cotton Pygmy-Goose is a duck. In Sri Lanka, it's more accurately named "Mal Saar" ("Flower Teal") as it prefers wetlands with floating or shallow vegetation. Weighing as little as 185g, the Mal Saar holds the world record for the smallest waterfowl by weight! buff.ly/3QeXJAN

This gorgeous male Eurasian Kestrel giving me the side eye and wondering why I am in his valley. What a beauty he is, look at his colours! #birds

I've just been reading "Half Earth Socialism" www.versobooks.com/en-gb/produc.... It advocates for E.O.Wilson's plan to leave half the world to rewild eowilsonfoundation.org/what-is-the-... but with a twist. Worth reading, but you might want to play the game instead: frnsys.itch.io/half-earth-s...

Correction, not juvenile but adult in winter plumage!

A first for me, spotted two juvenile Atlantic Puffins at Fraserburgh harbour last weekend. Just curious if anyone has seen this before in January? Perhaps they have gone off course from Shetland?! I’ve only ever witnessed Puffins from May - Aug in NE Scotland before. 🪶📷🌿🐧🐦 #BirdingScotland #Birds

As horrific fires rage in LA, news comes that world has breached 1.5 degree limit on global heating. When will political leaders join the dots & take urgent far-reaching action? Leave all new fossil fuels in the ground & prioritise building resilience - home retrofits, flood defences & much more

I am a climate scientist and this is correct ⬇️
