No. Why do you want to entrench car dependency? What about hospital workers who don't drive to work - don't they deserve help too? Just pay them all enough to be able to afford parking, if they chose to drive, or the bus, if they chose that instead.

Yup - you blew their silly argument out of the water, and instead of being adult about it, and admit they got it wrong, they blocked.

Oh haven't you heard? All the new hospitals are being built in the middle of the sticks, far away from everything, and without any buses going near it 😉

That Jewel person has since blocked me 😂 They didn't like repeatedly being proven wrong.

Are you an actual idiot? Do we have the funding you want RIGHT NOW? No? In which case, wind your neck back in, and deal with the current reality.

Oh FFS, no. It has NOT been solved, because we still have un underfunded NHS. You live in cloud-cuckoo land! No wonder you claim such ludicrous things! It will have been solved it it was the reality out there. Whether is CAN be solved is not being disputed.

Sure. But the NHS is underfunded. Do you need me to draw you a picture in crayon? And quite predictably, you avoided answering the question.

But let's face it - you're simply making excuses to have unfettered driving, with as much of the true costs offloaded onto others. And for that, I'll mute you soon.

So you want everyone else to beat the burden of you choosing to live 13 miles from work? Also, if she drove to the nearest park and ride (free parking!) and cycle in from there, she won't have to do the full 13 miles. And my commute's 15 damned hilly miles each way. I don't have an ebike.

Don’t agree. I had major surgery for breast cancer last yr but made nearly all my appointments by bike or bus. Clearly this isn’t an option for everyone but for many it is. Having to breathe toxic car fumes around the hospital added insult to injury knowing they could have contributed to my illness
comment in response to post
That's an entirely different argument. Come back once you solved that, and the NHS is rolling in money. Until then, which clinical services would you cut to fund free parking instead?

Pure selfishness from people who want to offload as much of the costs of their own personal choices as they can onto others.

I have all my fingers crossed for you!

"Cannot be done"? I call BS on that. On my commute, from time to time I encounter a nurse, who cycles in on her ebike. There are also direct bus services, and many staff members take the bus daily. Also, "Increasingly"? How many new hospitals have been built in the past decade?
comment in response to post
Oh, I care about self-entitled drivers forever choosing to offload the costs of their choices onto everyone else. Are you not in the least concerned about the 9000+ early deaths in Greater London alone each year, directly attributable to transport pollution?

On a related note, I hope your chronic illness improves for you. It must be extremely difficult to live with.

Well said!

That is absolute BS. In over 40 years of driving, I have NEVER on public roads needed to exceed speed limits to get out of danger, nor has anyone else I know of.

Plenty of park and ride services, which do offer free parking, have direct bus links to hospitals. People who are calling for free parking at hospitals are being selfish and ignore the costs to anyone not driving.
comment in response to post
Yup. Exactly nobody who calls for free car parking cares one hoot about anyone who doesn't drive. Embedded motornormativity in action, and woe betide anyone who dares suggest they should pay their own way.
comment in response to post
Thank you so much for these :-)

That's the core of this: people simply want unfettered driving, with all costs offloaded onto others. Then, to mark the inherent selfishness of that, they start with excuses of why they simply MUST drive to hospital. It's "I need to transport a fridge, my old granny & a large blind dog" BS again.

Kindly point out where anyone claimed the NHS relies on car parking to survive? By outsourcing car parking, the NHS is freed from the burden of having to carry the cost of parking. There are several real-world examples where it's demonstrated free parking is a disaster for everyone. Why ignore that?
comment in response to post
I live in the real world and work in a hospital in Scotland so, free parking. It's a disaster because it encourages driving, so it's practically impossible to get parked unless you arrive before 8. It doesn't work. I watch it not working Monday to Friday. Being well meaning doesn't change that.
