Conspiracist thinking thrives when people feel out of control. I think that the quintessential 20s American experience is looking at a bunch of obvious problems, wondering why the fuck no one seems to be able to solve them, and feeling powerless to overcome them. Conspiracies are easy answers to that

This conversation is so tired because one side is like "there is a deep cancer in the American mind that allows complete disassociation of our actions from the effects they have on the world around us and too many don't see this as an issue" and the other side is like "yeah but that polls bad"

Not to mention the countless regressive/awful decisions that get made "for the children".

The world will become a much better and safer place when more people embrace the idea that the best way to empower their children (to think, make good choices, speak up, etc) is to trust that they're capable of understanding the truth in an age appropriate way. Ignorant kids/people are easily misled

Remember the Luddites weren't explicitly anti technology (that's mostly a smear) their main issue was wanting to benefit from technology in a way that respected them as workers and artisans, instead of all the benefits going to the owners of their looms.
