Treecreeper low down and in good light, it spent a few minutes on the ground sallying up for insects

Another sure sign of spring with a pair of very vocal Raven displaying and making the most bizarre series klonking and knocking sounds #birdingFife

With the two male White-winged Scoter still at Gullane this morning that’s (at least) three in the Forth at the moment #birdingFife #birdingLothian

White-winged Scoter at Leven just now, off skate park #birdingFife #rarebirdsUK

Popped into the Eden Estuary late this afternoon for my first Fife Avocet for 20 years, then spent a lovely crisp clear dusk listening to a female Long-eared Owl calling away #birdingFife

Two Hen Harrier at Cameron Reservoir midday. Goldeneye numbers up to 157 but just 4 Tufted Duck (been very few all winter so I’m not holding my breath on them pulling in something funkier) #birdingFife

Great to see this info on annual number of records of BBRC species between 1950-2018 online #rarebirdsUK

Oooh, a Ringed Seal was photographed yesterday hauled out near Falkirk before swimming off on the rising tide. Not #birdingFife I know but gotta be worth a mention!

Another damp grey and cold day brightened up by some Eider

A bit of a Long-tailed Duck passage in an hour early morning at Fife Ness with 82 south into the Forth, presumably the late winter/spring build up in numbers prior to departure north #birdingFife

Have you seen any colour-ringed Twite? A project to record them is being run by Species on the Edge, and they'd be very grateful for your sightings! #CaithnessBirds

Amazing video youtu.be/rzy8-3qp4so?...

We have updated our missing records file again, please do have a look to see if you can help us by submitting outstanding rarities from 2024 (and a few notables from 2023). We aim to put out an updated version of this every 2-3 weeks until report time #RareBirdsUK britishbirds.co.uk/rarities-com...

An unseasonal Manx Shearwater very slowly north past Fife Ness this morning before it had a change of heart and doubled back into the Forth #birdingFife

#birdingFife

Cold, damp and grey morning spent trying to figure out the camera

ad sum plum Black Guillemot the highlight of an hour at Fife Ness first thing. Guillemot and Gannet numbers up the last few days, and 33 Long-tailed Duck past was a notable count for the winter #birdingFife

The Eider in Pittenweem harbour are always good value

The St Monans wintering bunting flock was still very impressive yesterday, with >300 Corn Bunting and 100+ Reed Bunting (plus lots of Yellowhammer, Tree Sparrow, etc.) #birdingFife

#rarebirdsUK

Seems to be an increase in the number of dead wild birds testing positive for HPAI (bird flu). If you find a dead wild bird please do report it via the link below (only takes a couple of mins) #birdingScotland www.gov.uk/guidance/rep...

Grey Partridge in frosty dawn light at St Andrews yesterday #birdingFife

Many thank yous to whichever fabulous beings nominated my work for the BSFA awards 🤗🤗🤗 Delighted to see We Are All Ghosts In The Forest, The Last To Drown AND Mhairi Aird on the longlists! Alongside so many amazing people - Congrats all!🥰 Voting closes on 28th Feb www.bsfa.co.uk/bsfa-awards-...

ALSO (today is a good book news day omg) It means a lot to see We Are All Ghosts In The Forest on here. This book doesn't have a US deal (yet), so its visibility beyond the UK is minimal. But this kind of thing can really help its chances, so thank you Locus team 🤗

Rather slow day livened up by J Morris’s male White-winged Scoter in cracking light at Leven river mouth and a wander to the east of the town to pick up a pair of Surf Scoter #birdingFife

Took advantage of some lovely light late pm @ Kilrenny Mill to try and figure out how my camera works #birdingFife

Ten Scaup & a Black-throated Diver the highlights @ Leven midday. Ten Whooper Swan and 2 Little Egret @ Cameron Reservoir mid pm. #birdingFife

Glad I stopped to have a look at the small group of geese spotted this morning thru a gap in the hedge @ St Monans. Six Russian White-fronted. Seems to have been a bit of an influx in Fife the last ten days or so #birdingFife

#rarebirdsUK

Today was mostly about the sea with 4 Red-necked Grebe (2 @ Lundin Links, 2 @ Lower Largo), 8 Scaup @ Leven and lots of the commoner stuff, but also managed a pair of Nuthatch in central Fife and 81+ Twite at Dumbarnie Links #birdingFife

Superb views of the Pendine male Desert Wheatear, still present early afternoon around the Caban and Speed Museum. A rare foray out of Pembrokeshire! #RareBirdsUK #WelshBirds

Two Pochard the highlight at Cameron Reservoir midday (scarce in the east of the county) and a brief stop near St Monans for the 4 Russian White-fronted Geese #birdingFife

Near full sum plum Black Guillemot, 3 Great Northern Diver & 51 Red-throated Diver south @ Fife Ness during an hour first thing #birdingFife

A collector's item with the Shipping Forecast for Rockall as Storm Eowyn approaches giving not just Hurricane force 12 winds, but Sea State = Phenomenal (waves >14m). Terrifying!

Easy to lose oneself in this at the moment... earth.nullschool.net#current/wind...
