i am perhaps not grasping a subtlety here :) to me that code looks like: typedef int32_t (*RuleEval)(void); int32_t evalApply(int32_t rule_idx) { RuleEval f = (RuleEval)rule_idx; return f(); } and rule_idx could be an index into the funcref table, possibly generated later
