Made a difficult choice today to put off a big purchase until probably months from now. It's gonna be part of my revamping of my furniture project, but the way things are stacking up right now, it is safest to wait. I have parts of the project I can focus on, but I'm sad this big part has to wait.

Just when I thought I could rest with my complete Amiibo figure collection, Switch 2 confirms more will be made.

Something that trying to expand my baking recipes has unintentionally taught me is how to be more patient. Like, I thought I was a pretty patient person to begin with, but making food that I won't be able to taste until tomorrow, and not for the purpose of meal planning survival, is new to me.

I have grand ambitions for doing things today, like putting top coat on shelves, making cobbler, cleaning; However my body is too tired. I probably overdid it yesterday at work. So I must find energy and motivation some other way today.

I feel like I've had to do more cyber security email training for my job than most people at the top of our government. I don't even work in security, I just have a work email address and have to do lessons about not clicking links. Somebody get the Trump admin a KnowBe4 subscription or something.

It's tough feeling like you're in a training arc or filler arc, while waiting for everything to complete and then getting to show off all the progress. And while it's nice to know what's coming, the hardest part is patience in the face of that clear view of the future.

I'm trying a new recipe, well more like modified recipe, to make a banana cobbler. It pretty much follows the peach cobbler recipe I have, except with bananas. But I don't know how many bananas, and might have put too many in this. It's in the oven now though, so if it isn't bad maybe I'll gloat.

Meh, I keep pushing back the expected end date for this bookcase project. And honestly, it doesn't matter when it gets done as long as I keep making progress. Because it eventually will get done if I keep going. And I'm less concerned about finishing sooner rather than comfortably.

Maybe a hot take, but everyone who opposed Trump in the election, both those who voted for Harris and those who didn't, knew how bad Trump was going to be. There is no "I told you so" because we all said the same thing. Some saw imminent failure from Harris and asked to pivot, and other resisted.

Real crazy to watch all the people who spent the past 8 months screaming that we had to accept whatever we were offered in the name of "harm reduction" finally turn on Senator Schumer for teaming up with Trump in the name of "harm reduction" concerning a government shutdown vs give Trump everything.

Nothing is quite as big a red flag as someone obsessed with rubber duckies and I will not be elaborating

Something I've been upacking lately is how it seems everywhere I work there is this expectation of me that because I am competent therefore I am responsible for the competency of others around me. Regardless of supervisor status or structure or my role entirely, it is just applied to me by everyone.

I keep having to remind myself that I took time off from work to rest and catch up on myself, not stress about how I'm not moving forward with every waking moment due to project setbacks. The purpose is for me to recover, but I keep looking for things to do rather than letting recovery happen.

Bookcase staining project is on hold because I accidentally spilled a lot and now have to wait until next week to get more. I would be more upset with myself, except I don't have a deadline, and it's not irreversible damage. I'm just happy that I'm still moving in a positive direction regardless.

Work schedule last week did end up pushing my bookcase building schedule to this week. But, I finally assembled all the shelves today. Gotta wait for glue to fully dry on these last few, but I have others prepped to start staining tomorrow. I am rewarding myself with a pizza.

UPS has failed to deliver four days in a row, blaming the snow that melted five days ago. My package has been in my city for those four days, was on a truck for delivery today, and despite the clear sky and 60F day, UPS is blaming their failure to deliver on "severe weather" again.

Gonna try and push today to get the top coat on the curio extension done. Two hours inbetween coats, sanding and reapplying, three hours for the third coat to dry before flipping and repeating on the other side, should take 12 hours total for the last coat to be applied and dry overnight.

Getting pulled in on my day off tomorrow. Which kinda messes with my timeline for making stuff. Kinda hoping I have enough energy at the end of the day to spend 4 hours on top coat for the curio, but I doubt it. Otherwise, this week is when things start coming together, so I just gotta get through.

I'm making use of these snow days and locking in for bookcase building. Countersinking is all done, got the bottom feet glued and attached. Tomorrow, work is closed again, so I'm going to work on gluing and attaching the back feet, and after that, it's just gluing and screwing the shelves together.

Putting together a reasonable timeline for finishing up this bookcase. If the rest of this week is dedicated to predrilling and gluing and assembling, and next Monday and Tuesday are dedicated to putting a top coat on the curio extension, staining/top coating three shelves a week, done end of March.

I got most of the drill press/holesaw stuff done today. Gotta redo two of them, but it's fine, they're like 1/8 inch off where I want the holes to be, and it's okay to open up the holes bigger. Trying to mark everything to countersink and predrill for screws, which is the next step tomorrow.

Bookcase update, resized the boards I missed, cut the discs for the back feet. Now the only cutting left is holesaw drill pressing the top boards to get the bottom feet discs. That's a tomorrow thing though, after I run some errands and get more hardware for other projects. Making progress.

Otherwise, with the curio cabinet project, the furniture legs came in today. So it's literally a waiting game now, for Friday and getting paid so I can buy the wood I'm turning into the extension base. Measure out bolt holes to attach the cabinet, drill, stain, attach legs, attach cabinet, and done.

Did most of the routing for the bookcase today. I'm going to do more than I originally planned, because the discs I cut out for the hand holes on the sides are being repurposed as feet on the backs of the shelves so they can stack as crates, and looking at them now they are too thick for that idea.

Bookcase pieces have been cut down, brought home, and now at my leisure I can do the rest. Speaking of, I need to rest. Gotta use my day off before it's gone and I have to do laundry again.

Life is complicated right now, and also a mixture of waiting for progress and dread for the world, but I do have impeachment cobbler in the oven, so maybe if war breaks out, either civil or global, or we get invaded by a foreign freedom force that treats us like we treat others, I will have dessert.

Blegh, every day feels like filler arc. Just waiting until the next piece of progress can be made. Monday is probably the start of bookcase stuff. Friday after that is maybe stuff to finish the new curio. Work is all about getting ready for an opening on Tuesday. Just gotta live until then.

Also, got the rest of the wood for my bookcase. Tomorrow, gonna start looking for a tablesaw to rip it down into individual pieces. For a lot of not good things happening lately, it is nice to feel I still have some control over my life.

Country is falling apart in real time, but at least today I had the weird thought about how funny it would be to get a cat tower, even though I don't own a cat, just to troll the landlord whenever maintenance spots it, or just put it near a window, and see how they react.
