Law enforcement officers should never cover their faces when making arrests or conceal their identities (unless they are working undercover). They work for us. We have a right to know who they are. These face coverings are frightening & unAmerican, as though they're ashamed of what they're doing.

Let me put it this way: Apple has all the money it could ever want. It can afford to pay the full cost of making iPhones. Instead, Harvard et al. subsidize Apple by educating its future employees. But … (1/2)

STEPHANOPOULOS: When will we see an actual trade agreement? Will we see any this week? HASSETT: I expected we were probably going to see one perhaps as early as last week

As an indication of the upside-down we are now living in, a Ukrainian friend who lives in Kyiv under the daily threat of aerial bombardment reached out to me today: “Are you doing OK? I’ve been following the news about American universities and it sounds bad.” 🙃

After three months in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody, a Filipino green-card holder who had been arrested at Seattle-Tacoma Airport has finally gone home.

California NIMBYs oppose a bill that legalizes denser housing near transit because it “discriminates against disabled people”… I wish I was making this up if you live in California, call or email your state senator in support of SB79 because building more housing near transit is good, actually

Last month, Senate Rs created a limited filibuster carveout to pass with a simple majority what Senate rules require a supermajority for. This month, they're planning to violate two separate provisions of the Byrd rule to pass with a simple majority what Senate rules require a supermajority for.

Here is the updated version of the FY26 president's proposed #NASA astrophysics budget for current+future missions. The technical supplement document does have significantly reduced funds for NuSTAR, IXPE, TES (+HST, JWST, Roman), so I removed those Xs, but these are at/below bare minimum levels. 🔭

my grandma's county in NY (livingston county ny, pop 61k) has a small manufacturer that makes sensors for a lot of these satellites. I wonder how they're feeling

Many others are posting abt this too but this graphic viscerally shows how dire the presidential budget is for NASA 🔭🧪and worldwide astronomy. I can’t express how sad this makes me, as an American scientist. And it’s mostly already paid for projects, so also no logic in terms of saving money.

Heavily armed paramilitary forces stormed a local San Diego restaurant today, deployed stun grenades against a crowd of onlookers, and kidnapped a handful of kitchen workers.

Against all odds, Joni Ernst has made it worse

Stephen Miller said recently that American scientific achievement in the mid-20th century owed little to immigrants, given immigration quotas at the time. Someone should tell him that from 1945- 1974, 16 of the 30 U.S. winners of the Nobel in physics were immigrants www.forbes.com/sites/stuart...

Why are so many law enforcement officers wearing masks now? Embarassed?

New: I am putting together a separate page on the ONEST website to document the developments leading up to, during and after the G7 Leaders’ Summit. Articles, videos, analysis, interviews.

Fed's Waller in Korea: "Assuming that the effective tariff rate settles close to my lower tariff scenario, that underlying inflation continues to make progress to our 2 percent goal, and that the labor market remains solid, I would be supporting 'good news' rate cuts later this year."

We wanted to understand the theory that Joe Biden was executed and replaced by clones in 2020. So we talked with three involuntarily celibate crypto investors at a Whataburger in Buford.

Armed FBI agents knocked on the doors of two pub defenders at SEVEN AM, asking to talk w them, having made no earlier effort to reach out. Both PDs represented ppl detained by ICE. FBI said they “wanted to reach out before work.” Which is nakedly not true. HARASSING DEFENSE LAWYERS IS REALLY BAD.

Ukraine could’ve launched the attack on civilian population centers, like Russia does to them daily. Instead, they chose a strictly military target - the very bombers being used to kill Ukrainian civilians. A brilliant operation solely designed to defend their own people.

FDA head Marty Makary today called #CDC 's vaccine expert panel a "kangeroo court" that "rubber stamps" every vaccine. 1. Vaccines come to #ACIP after approval by FDA. 2. ACIP doesn't automatically recommend as broad use as FDA does. Eg: RVS vaccines for adults. www.statnews.com/2025/06/01/f...

Also, that time Justice Thomas sat on the Trump v. U.S. case where the Court gave Trump broad criminal immunity in a 6-3 decision, even though Thomas' wife had been *very* pro-Jan 6 protests. How quickly a president's crazy makes a country forget joycevance.substack.com/p/trump-must...

Wow! South Dakota generated enough renewable energy to meet all of its energy demand and then an additional 21% on top. I assume that excess energy was exported to other states. The vast majority of the renewable energy generation was wind. And Montana met almost 94% with renewables. Amazing.

Couple thoughts on this Ukrainian operation: 18 months of planning with no leaks is crazy impressive. The intelligence picture, the OpSec, and the execution were all top notch. I’m curious to see what else they have planned, and yes I’m worried about how Russia will respond.

When is a millionaire not a millionaire? When they're a "small business owner"

We fought a war so we wouldn’t have a ruler who wanted majesty. It’s the people’s house, not a palace or a tacky casino.

a company going into liquidation is one thing but if the same principals are reacquiring their own company while conveniently claiming they now own all the existing assets but none of the liabilities, that's just a scam

Hello! I would be happy to help. You can email me lollardfish at gmail with a draft of a piece and a pitch and I will help you refine it to improve your chances of being published. I mean this. I've helped a few dozen people these last six months.

The newest budget numbers out of NSF are... not good. We're looking at worse than worst case scenarios for U.S. research universities. That's in addition to all the other attacks. Every person w/ a word processer and an hour of time should be penning an op-ed to their local papers this weekend.

On face value, excellent news!

Just to be clear, the immediate goal here is to juice deport numbers to satisfy Stephen Miller. The secondary goal, though, is to intimidate immigrants into missing court dates so they become de facto "criminals." And then use that status to justify harsher and harsher treatment of them.

Working with a student on her story, I recommend using an em-dash. She says she can't, because professors will think she's using AI. She says that's a tell now. Is it? Is the hopeless race to outsmart AI causing us to lose bits of language and punctuation?

Commerce Sec Lutnick: "rest assured, tariffs are not going away. He has so many other authorities that even in the weird and unusual circumstance where this was taken away, we just bring on another or another or another." Great news for the small businesses this administration claims to love

This is the side effect of their lives as grifters -- they assume everyone else is a grifter, and when they find out public servants often do, in fact *serve*, it's a shock.

1. The FPV drone tech Ukraine used here has been around for a while, though it was used very ingeniously. 2. The Ukrainian attack using these drones relied upon what sounds like over a year of extraordinarily precise logistics, planning, and training. This is not something just anyone could do.

Yes.

Just another weekend wrap-up. 🤡 @nytimes.com
