Kinds of Kindness I have to stop watching YL movies on planes. I thought the Lobster “sex” scene was awkward, but that had nothing on this. Interesting takes on the same core subject. The first and third stories landed the theme well. The middle one felt less successful, but all very Lanthimos.

Speak No Evil The Invitation worked because for the majority of the movie there is reasonable doubt. While Speak No Evil starts that way it’s very clear the family needs to leave and there’s a good 45+ minutes to go before the actual turn. Once the mystery is gone it’s a slog.

Alien:Romulus The setup was interesting and well justified, creating a the opportunity for a new story in the universe. Things then quickly devolved into a meh version of the original.  Was excited in the first half hour. Felt like I was watching a checklist for the rest of the film.

Venom 3 This first one wasn’t a “good” film, but the interplay of the characters was fun. Each sequel pushed into action scenes at the expense of coherent storytelling. This third one was mostly non-sense. Feels more like a series of scenes than a story.

Far too many folks speaking to the converted. It’s hard work but you have to go out there and bring the message to folks who don’t already agree.

Dug that series. Besides some of the most accurately depicted hacking, it very much knew its audience and enjoyed playing with them. Playing the Pixies end of 1st season was a great. Just an acknowledgment of yes we are doing a thing, and we know, that you know, we are doing that thing.

This one has a lot more to do with geopolitics. Doesn’t make it any better for the team, but it’s structurally different than some of the other recent layoff events.

Flight was Minneapolis to Toronto on a US carrier (Endeavor owned by Delta) which yes means the FAA will be involved. They would investigate any US carrier even if the departure and arrival locations were both international. But obviously this incident will be on concert with the TCCA.

Rebel Ridge is also interesting for the very low body count. Lots of fights but very few deaths. Green Room is more situational horror but also very good.

Pri/Sec implies a count. Is the third item Tertiary or a second Secondary. Not that M/S was a good name. But it implies a different structure. Leader/Follower Commander/Listener Principal/agents All are better ways of implying the same structure.

One of the things I loved about Blue Ruin. A revenge movie from just kind of a normal guy. Who does normal guy fuck ups.

Steal $15m in fraud, plea deal and you walk away with no jail time. Steal $1500 on the street and get 4 years. Not surprising just disappointing.

Nice to have Brady so that this wasn't a just constant Mahomes lovefest. Although Mahomes is helping a lot there all on his own.
