I feel modern day fandom is less about simply liking the material and more about either being part of active community discussions or creating fanworks involving the source material (not just fan art and fanfic, but YouTube videos, editing wikis, etc), especially for transformative fandoms

Basically, liking a work and being in its Fandom is like a venn diagram. You can like something without being in its Fandom, and I've even seen people who are in a Fandom without even liking the source material. The "Multifandom" label is usually used by fanwork creators to let their audience know
