1/3 Henrietta Hodson b1841 Upper Marsh, Lambeth, successful actress in London & provinces mainly playing comedic roles. Also a theatre manager. Appeared in plays by W S Gilbert until they had a public falling out. She retired upon her marriage 1864 but returned to the stage when marriage ended.

Margaret Rowbotham was born in Plumstead 1883 and attended Blackheath High school

1/3 Sister Nivedita (nee Margaret Noble, b1867 Ireland) was an educationalist and campaigner for Indian Independence and reform. She came to Wimbledon 1890 as teacher/partner at progressive Kingsley Gate School & founded other schools in the area, living at 21 High Street, Wimbledon

Annie Altschul fled Austria in 1939 and trained to become a psychiatric nurse in London. She taught at The Maudsley in Denmark Hill and went on to become one of the most influential voices in psychiatric nursing while battling depression herself

1/2 Kate Carney b1869 Newington to a music hall family, very popular singer/comedienne known as ‘The Coster Comedienne.’ Began by singing Irish songs, gradually incorporating humorous Cockney songs into her act. She appeared in a double act with her husband George Shea who retired to manage her.

1/2 Life long Wimbledon resident Ethel Crickmay was upset to see horses struggling to pull heavy loads up the steep Wimbledon Hill Rd. She founded the Wimbledon branch of Our Dumb Friends League 1908, raised sufficient money to buy and maintain a carthorse to assist, known as a trace horse.

English Heritage has announced they will award a blue plaque (site unknown) to Una Marson, journalist, activist, poet, first black woman broadcaster for the BBC. This is in addition to the Southwark heritage blue plaque at the site of her former home in Brunswick Square, Camberwell. #WorldRadioDay
