Just calling balls and strikes: anything that helps trump is legal, anything that would hurt trump is illegal

I don't raise cups to my lips and sip, because that's what the women in my house do. Instead, I open my mouth and just hurl water from the cup at my face from about two feet away.

There are so, so many outrages, but the way he degrades our national symbols, turns them into literal and metaphorical backdrops for the grubbiest money grabs, with no comprehension of what these symbols mean -- it's outrageous but also just sad.

Let us all now shed a tear for the wannabee grifters who gave millions of dollars to a convicted felon and adjudicated rapist last night and are feeling jilted about the lack of a more substantive relationship this morning.

Things? Bad. Birds? Good. So here is a bird to distract from the bad, offering a small but vital moment of avian solace. (photo by me)

Fuck you, Jeanine. In my old government building, we couldn't drink the tap water because testing showed it was consistently unsafe because the building was old and Congress wouldn't approve repair money.

Casten: The oil and gas sector don't like competition for the same reason you don't like D.E.I. Because mediocre folks are scared about a meritocracies.

i think it should be a bigger story that the president held a meeting with a foreign head of state where he ranted about the most gutter white supremacist propaganda you can find on the internet

We’re all being robbed and murdered by the worst fucking people to ever draw breath.

One of the things that goes unremarked in these stories is that they rest on relentless armies of fascist goons who will harass and torment ordinary people for years on end, with no recourse for their victims, and that everyone treat as normal. Cops support it. Gamergate is the law.

the "strong republican party" that pelosi is always calling for is the one that voted to pass the destructive bill in the house last night. stop being accommodating to these people. do your jobs. fight them.

This gets the story wrong on a fundamental level because it assumes DOGE was about what Musk claimed. DOGE was about stealing data, getting Musk contracts, shutting down investigations and regulations of Musk’s companies, and terrorizing federal workers. On that front, it succeeded.

Republican Roger Marshall just blocked an effort by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to pass a resolution by unanimous consent that would bar using a foreign plane as Air Force One.

The country with the most sophisticated intelligence capabilities in the world, and the president is holding up "a months-old blog post" from an obscure, conspiracy-mongering site "featuring a photo from the Democratic Republic of Congo" while making allegations against South Africa to its president

DOGE should absolutely be subject to FOIA. It has openly claimed and exerted independent legal authority. Trump has said Elon calls shots. They aren’t policy advisors. Congress just choosing to pretend DOGE isn’t using powers delegated to others is not evidence of anything but its own incompetence.

This is such a fantastic idea!

I said it would get worse very quickly. By tomorrow we will have completed the most dangerous & frightening 24 hours thus far of Trump 2.0. Just to name a few: 1. Defiance of a court order by sending migrants to Sudan without due process (despite clear DP decision SCOTUS) & Dist. CT. order.

The fact that they would still give Covid boosters to people over 65 and people with preconditions means they know the boosters work and are needed. There is literally no justification for taking them away from everyone else besides just being huge dicks

For all the talk about “hard truths” etc that propagate our discourse we really don’t discuss how coddling conspiracy theorists has made things worse for everyone.

The president is using the power of his office to line his own pockets, and doing it in broad daylight too. This is a five-alarm fire.

These sociopaths want us all to die. They're not just not requiring vaccines -- they're actively trying to keep safe vaccines away from people who want them. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/20/h...

Federal workers should be able to sue Russ Vought for mental distress. He said that thing about traumatizing feds in his personal capacity and then came into government and carried it out. He and all the sadists helping him need to be held accountable.

“Turn the page on Trump” is an instant pass for me with future Democratic candidates. I want revenge and retribution and justice on a Batman level.

The Trump DOJ has officially now pressed more charges against elected Democrats than the Biden DOJ under Garland did against Republicans. And Republicans did January 6. Think about this.

The president of the United States knows approximately seven words, the degree he uses “big, beautiful” to describe everything is astounding

If you don't want to be compared to the Gestapo, one neat trick is to not engage in a campaign of terror around the country wherein you kidnap people off the streets to slave dungeons in accommodation of an autocratic fascist and his nationalist movement's desire for racial purity.

The left should be making Russ Vought own this 24/7 in very simple language: Vought is making it easier for scammers to target you and your grandma.

Holy shit In one hour: They are indicting a D congresswoman They are going to pay the family of domestic terrorist Ashli Babbit 5 million dollars They sent 50 perfectly innocent people who are here legally to their gulag in El Salvador

Excellent point. Democrats dithered replacing an old president with a younger candidate, but the press is holding the entire party accountable. Republicans staged a violent coup against our government, one in which multiple office holders were openly complicit, and the press just shrugged it off.

EVERYTHING IS A SHAKEDOWN. That’s the rule of the Trump administration. It’s the only way Trump knows how to wield power, because he’s a stupid brute. He goes to people and says “Give me stuff or I’ll punish you.” He’s extorted law firms, universities, now he’s extorted a plane for himself.

This is appallingly un-American. Unbelievable that we're at the Kim IL Sung stage just 4 months in.

It's a yes-and situation: the DOGE types think sentient AIs can take it from here, Christian nationalists reject science reflexively, and Trump believes scientists made him look bad in 2020 & wants retribution.

Meanwhile, the Trump admin has imported the Tate brothers, members of the Sinaloa cartel, and antisemitic Afrikaners.

Turning the greatest republic in the history of the world into a shitty little personality cult dictatorship at breakneck speed.

1184 BC - in one of the most cunning military maneuvers ever conceived the Greeks build a large wooden horse as a gift to Troy who are unaware soldiers hide inside ready to to sack the city and end the Trojan War 2025 -

oh wow I wonder if this is something he could have done when the Trump admin condemned 2000 infants a day to a lifelong HIV infection or when he defied a unanimous Supreme Court decision ah well nevertheless

Trump is using the government to directly promote white male supremacy in a way this country has never seen before. Using the tools of civil rights enforcement to attack institutions and force them to hire fewer minorities and fewer women. We need to be much more blunt about it.

Historians will *absolutely* make a point of contrasting his solemn promise that he would just be a simple umpire "calling balls and strikes" as fairly as he could with his actual record of deeply reckless and thoroughly activist decisions.

"the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging" really resonates.

The president has covered the Oval Office in gold, is planning a massive military parade for his birthday, and is now accepting $400,000,000 luxury planes from foreign powers as personal presents. What the fuck are we doing here?

Soon after firing the Librarian of Congress, Trump has fired the nation’s top copyright official as well. Rep. Joe Morelle says Trump acted after the copyright official “refused to rubber-stamp Elon Musk’s efforts to mine troves of copyrighted works to train AI models.”

Trump's plan to accept a luxury jet from Qatar was endorsed by his attorney general — who also happens to be a former lobbyist for Qatar. This is unfolding despite the Constitution's Emoluments Clause, which Trump has dismissed as "phony." www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

It now appears that where we're going to end up on tariffs is that they will be high enough to cause serious price increases for consumers, but not high or targeted enough to spur meaningful reshoring of manufacturing. A perfect lose-lose for everyone.

ICE agents (and other federal officers) covering their faces is in part a reflection of the impunity they understand Trump has afforded them. Gift link: wapo.st/438r062

If you don't believe in the Overton window, watch the press act as if record-high, business-busting tariffs with no relief for small businesses are a concession.
