Get a brief basic guide and the Merlin app so you get an idea of who is around to see and what they look like 👍

There are clubs! The Audubon Society has groups in lots of different places. If you Google "[your city] Audubon society" you'll usually find one. Then you can sign up to get emails about upcoming field trips. They're often free, and going out with experienced birders is a GREAT way to learn.

If you have a local nature center, you can also look to see if they run birding activities. Where I live, my local nature center has bird walks I think every other weekend, plus occasional presentations with their non-releasable birds of prey.

Best gift ever… WiFi bird feeder with a camera. I love it. Motion sensor and my husband strategically hung the hummingbird and suet feeders close by so I get tons of pictures. I also get a lot of pictures of gluttonous squirrels but it’s a great break from the hellscape that is the US right now.

A Carolina Wren currently has a nest in our garage.

I was painting a project in the overhead open doorway and she was distressed, wanting to fly in past me.

She finally settled on a stealth technique and hopped in, right next to my feet.
