Full-time slugabed.
He/Him.
I write about games, anime, and other media. A lot of Bioware, flight combat sims, and agency in games chatter from me.

Hmmm, I know I haven't written anything that is explicitly about that, but I pretty sure it's at least come up briefly in something I've done.

It has, sort of like social justice, been so dominated in popular use by shitheads that it certainly has been altered. And yeah, companies are jumping on the appeasement train at a rapid pace.

It was called DEI before the shitheads picked up on it and started using it at their latest boogeyman acronym though, right? Like the article is specifically talking about sections in corporate websites that had "DEI" included in the language.

Admittedly, I was a prime age for such wide-eyed perspective when ME1 came out. I was 15. It was a revelation. But each time I replay it, I still get that sense I felt over a half my life ago.

The promise of a wildly ambitious series where the technical advancement allowed a yet unseen narrative ambition to be realized. I'm not convinced we've had such pie in the sky ideas since, certainly not in the AAA space.

As much as I love playing all the games that go onto my New Old Games lists, or the really out there indie titles, I'm still a sucker for the production only possible in the AAA space. To just give a dev a lot of money to truly go wild with.

These things definitely exist, as evidenced by the very blog above. I also accept a lot of my forum nostalgia is exactly that. But the style of discussion made possible by a forum over a Discord, feels missing. And like actual forums, not Reddit with it's big box store vibes and voting nonsense.

Super rad and cool thing to do that I greatly approve of.

Not seen that, but wouldn't surprise me. Given that the founder has openly courted gamer gate, the response they gave to criticisms about a lack of non-white characters in the first game, and ties to other right wing groups it is a deeply unappealing series.

And looking at the folks in the replies, plenty of shit heads are seeing this attitude from Gamble in a positive light. Which should set off some alarms for him. I for one would question why a bunch of reactionaries seem pleased by words.

This "aren't we all just here to have fun" shit is... yeah that would be neat. Unfortunately, Elon, Daniel Varva, and folks of their ilk would like to ensure some people aren't here at all.

Would highly suggest following it up with Stray Dog: Kerberos Panzer Cops. A good mix of the Oshii goofs, but also what if people silently exploring Taiwan to some incredible Kenji Kawai tracks. One of my favs from Oshii in any medium.

I'm starting Mass Effect again because its time to begin, in earnest, this big project that I've been cooking in the background for a year. Working title of "The Mod that Fixed Mass Effect 3's Ending" which will be about player agency through mods and other means.

The TV anime sensibilities are great. I mean, it literally has lovely animated scenes. Also, the usage of bumpers as a not only aesthetic iconography, but story pacing and to allow the player to save. The usage of music too is very TV, thinking of the action theme song that plays constantly.

Anthem would have done better with live service features...oh wait... Mass Effect: Andromeda would have done better with live service features... oh wait.

My big issue with modern Larian that combat is tedious. It becomes perfunctory and it makes up like 70% of very long games. Doesn't help that Divinity's writing is just all the most boring fantasy tropes jammed together in the least interesting way. Dual protagonists is very cool though!
